Maria Bello is set to exit CBS‘ NCIS, after a three-year run on TV’s most watched drama.
Bello joined NCIS for Season 15, as forensic psychologist Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane. Working off of a three-year contract, our sister site Deadline reports, Bello will leave the series eight episodes into the coming season, which is penciled in to premiere sometime this fall.
Bello’s previous TV credits include Goliath, Touch, Prime Suspect and ER.
NCIS’ 17th season fell four episodes short due to the pandemic-related shutdown, and thus ended with Episode 20 guest-starring TVLine Performer of the Week Christopher Lloyd. Episode 21, which was two days away from production, is “probably what we will shoot first [whenever production resumes],” co-showrunner Frank Cardea told TVLine, while the one after that will mark the series’ 400th overall.
“We have a lot of flexibility to air the first five or six episodes [of Season 18] in any order we want,” Cardea noted, “but we will still shoot 400 as the second one and air it as the second one.” (Get details on the Episode 400 storyline.)

Well, I liked her character, but what I’m most disappointed about is that there goes the Gibbs/Sloane relationship they were building up to. *sigh*
Didn’t care for a pairing of Gibbs/Jack. In my opinion, they just weren’t a good fit and did not exhibit any chemistry.
I really liked her character, and was excited to see where things were going with her and Gibbs. I guess it’s another point in the “I need to stop shipping in NCIS shows”column.
I didn’t think she was ever a good fit for the team. Sort of too low key for that show.
I agree. The whole thing kind of reminded me of the Samantha Ryan thing, just wanting something from or getting info on Gibbs for some reason.
Oh No. I really liked her and will miss her. And here I thought Gibbs and her might be getting together. Sorry to see her go.
She didn’t add anything to the show anyway.
I like her. She worked well with everyone. It seemed like they were yeah setting her up to put her with Gibbs. The show keeps going and going. So it will be interesting to see how they deal with it. Probably will entail something to do with the daughter she gave up for adoption, and is reconnecting with…
Damn. I really liked her character and was looking forward to seeing more of her and Gibbs having a personal life. This is very disappointing.
Agree … a bummer, man!
I wish she’d stay and they’d get rid of Diona Reasonover (Kasie). She is so annoying and ridiculous. She adds nothing to the show and doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the cast.
I agree with you so much!!! Diona Resasonover is the reason I stopped watching the show. I guess she was supposed to be amusing, but she wasn’t. She needs to dial it down a LOT.
Couldn’t agree more. she is really over-the-top. Between her and Bishop, the show becomes less and less enjoyable for me. I used to look forward to reruns, but don’t go near them anymore.
Funny, the husband and I enjoy her character. She seems more professional (if not as much a genius) than Abby, whom we enjoyed too, and it was a good transition. We’re always glad when she shows up in a scene because we are going to get answers that are fun.
I agree! I was worried about Abbey’s replacement, but happy to see Casie in the roll after her appearance with Ducky in a previous episode. That character needs the quirkiness of Abbey, but also the ability. The fact that Casie was so in awe of Abbey in that episode guaranteed she would be as conscientious as Abbey.
I have never understood the negativism toward Bishop. I like Bello as Jack. Her calmness is often needed. Now I’m hoping we find out why she’s leaving.
Wickekrsham is a terrible actress. They’ve made her character very wishy-washy and her manner of speaking her lines is stilted. She just doesn’t cut it for me and Kasie is so over- the-top that she’s just a joke. NCIS got rid of too many interesting characters – Mike Franks, Ziva. Fornell needs a bigger part in the show. I like the relationship between him and Gibbs.
And Reeves – they never should have killed off Reeves.
Agree on that, TOTALLY bummed out about Reeves! Sigh, I just had to move on … sniff. Maybe, an undercover job with a fake death? Wow, the plotting ideas I’m getting.
Oh know I disagree i was so happy when they got rid of Reeves he was terrible
I can’t understand calling Kasie “over-the-top” without saying Abby was even more so. After awhile, I hated her. I loved her in Seasons 1 & 2, where she wasn’t so babyish and didn’t wear clothes that were way to young for her. I also hated Mike Franks and eventually, Ziva. Huh, definitely different tastes, but that’s what makes the world go ’round.
LOL … good thing we don’t have to share a TV. Yes, towards the end, I was irritated that Abby was still so childish, but I guess I liked her part enough to let it go.
Totally agree Lillian, I used to wince when Abby came on after Season 2. I admired her in the beginning–then she grew irksome. I enjoy Kasie and also I like Bishop as well–different strokes for different folks…..
I love her! Diona is a great addition to the show. I wasn’t sure I would like anybody once Abby left, but she’s a terrific fit for the show, and adds such humor and I love her quirkiness just as much as I did Abby’s. I agree that she is a lot of fun.
I completely disagree with this. Kasie is a great addition to the show, and we’re just finding out about her, but I haven’t seen anything ridiculous or annoying in her behavior. Contrast that with the annoying caricature that Abby became and her often juvenile and self-serving behavior – none of which I’ve seen in Kasie makes her the obvious choice in my book.
I totally disagree. I love Diona Reasonover’s character and think she’s great
I just can’t believe this. Like, why is this happening??! and there goes another good ship.
Most likely because of Money NCIS is a dying show
Dying show? You obviously don’t keep up with the times. NCIS is often the Number 1 series of the week. There’s always one of you on these pages. If you don’t like the show, then don’t watch it.
I don’t but facts don’t lie
What “facts” are those? Plus, if you don’t watch the show why are you commenting about something you don’t watch??
I know that there are those out there who didn’t like Sloane, but I thought she was a nice addition and helped to bridge the gap with Ducky, played by David McCallum, not appearing as much. I’m not a shipper, but it was good for Gibbs to have a friend in the character. That said, it is hard to write for such a big ensemble, so with everything else, they never had a chance to properly develop the character (maybe if they hadn’t wasted so much time and energy in season 17 on the return of Ziva…). So I would prefer they did not add anyone else to the cast (because then the writers will be spending time on introducing and setting up another new character, and that takes away from the rest of the cast imo).
I was glad Ziva was back. Even if the storyline was messy at times, it was good Tony and Ziva and their storyline got closure. We shall see if they add somebody. But Sloane was in an extra position within the team so they might not.
Another woman leaving the show?
What’s going on at NCIS??
It’s there something to Pauly’s accusations???
I questioned her accusations about “Gibbs”, but now I’m starting to wonder!!!
She had a 3 yr contract. Nothing fishy, no gossip about Gibbs. That was her contract. I guess she decided 3 yrs was a good run. On to other things
The only stories that were true about Mark Harmon is that he will fight for his cast members for more money and better working conditions.. Now Michael Weatherly (Tony) ended up paying millions for harassment…
I’m ok with ghost! I do like her but I’m ok with her leaving! Phew! I was nervous for a sec!
Not ghost smh I meant I am ok with her leaving***
Now that she’s reconnected with her daughter and confronted her attacker her arc felt done tbh. I know there’s a lot of shippers for her and Gibbs but putting them together would break 17 seasons worth of Gibbs’s rules build up (Rule 12, never date a co-worker)
I really like her as an actress, but not in this role. It was always awkward and felt out of place with the rest of the cast. I wish her the best going forward.
This is exactly how I feel. I wanted to like her character more than I ever did. She never felt like she fit in with the cast. I didn’t really believe the relationship with Gibbs and her role on the team seemed to be mostly extraneous. Hope the actress finds a role with a better fit.
I think Maria Bello is an excellent actress, but NCIS never gave her much to do. The part was poorly written, although they tried to give her a few storylines last year.
I didn’t really care for her and I definitely didn’t want her Paired with Gibbs! I had been hoping he was going to have something going with the lady Nextdoor whom had the little boy that Gibbs was spending time with but then she turned out to be Zeva’s worst nightmare so , so much for that!

I’m glad she’s leaving. I could never figure out how her character was suppose to fit in with the rest of the gang and IMHO, she never did. If they need a forensic psychologist, I think they should bring Duckie back on a more regular basis to fill that role as needed.
Ducky, ie David McCallum, is very old… and he deserves a limited role.
does not saw WHY she is leaving…
say, not saw
I really didn’t care for her anyway.
In my opinion she was always a side character, despite being a regular, anyway so it’s not that big of a loss to be entirely honest. Gibbs does need a confidant, if you will, which he can talk with now though what with Ducky being super scarce of late.
“Ducky” is in his mid 80’s can see why he is winding down
I really liked her character on ER and was sorry to see her leave. Not so much when it comes to NCIS. I always thought she was out of place on the show. Whenever there is a tragedy like Reeves being killed to save Abby (which was totally unnecessary and a mistake), she is always just a little too pushy. It never really seemed like she bonded with the other characters except for Gibbs. It is too bad that relationship will be cut short, but I don’t think I will really miss her character. Something about her is just annoying.
I agree. I wanted to like her because a lot of people are into Slibbs. But she did seem a bit pushy. Like she is new but suddenly is the best friends with Vance and bossing everybody around. I got used to her though.
I would be happier if the Bishop and Kasie characters were leaving. There aren’t two more annoying characters.
Horse hockey! Emily Wickersham is gorgeous, Bishop is the best part of NCIS.
An actress needs to be more than pretty. She needs to be able to read lines like she really means them – not in the stilted manner she does.
Once again–that is just YOUR opinion–Emily has grown into her role and feels like a member of the team. Let it go–we all get it–YOU DON’T LIKE her or Kasie–essh.
Who died and made you the comment police? Yes, it is MY opinion and you are free to express YOUR opinion. If you don’t care for what I write, don’t read it. Pretty simple.
Didn’t care for her character, not sorry to see her go. Not only not a good fit, but very annoying.
I love her in this role! So sorry she’s leaving. What a great fit for Gibbs. And I liked that Jac wasn’t expected to be part of the team, more like an advisor, with equal status to Gibbs as the character made clear the first time Gibbs tried to bully her. She and Gibbs were a perfect match because both knew, first-hand, what the other had been through, had no unrealistic expectations of each other. What’s wrong with this show that they can’t keep good female characters? But CBS is not good with female-led shows either.
“But CBS is not good with female-led shows either.” Bingo! (I’m lookin’ at you, “Tommy.” Or rather, I’m sad to say that I’m NOT going to be lookin’ at you…)
They do OK with some characters. I like the lead in FBI, but don’t like DeLaGarza. The Black female analyst is great. Not crazy about the female lead in Magnum PI, but she’s tolerable. I think the problem with Tommy is that they tried to encompass too many fringe social issues in her character – woman in a traditionally man’s position, LGBTQ, what appears to be a bi-racial daughter. Too much baggage. I watched two episodes and gave up.
Music too loud to hear talking.
Exactly! As with Most shows! I Assume that they Hire Writers to write dialogue and Actors to recite those words?!
So, STFU with the Annoying Music, and let us Hear the Words!
And…Hold The Camera Still! It is Supposed to be a fly on the wall, Not a Punch-Drunk Hornet!! (Not so much on This show, but others)
I hear this comment all the time about people not being able to hear dialogue because of the background music. I’ve never had a problem with it until I bought a new TV, so I’ve come to the conclusion that this phenomenon is not the problem of the people producing the shows, but a technology problem relating to how the sound tracks are transmitted in this day and age. And when I listen to my older digital TV or my even older analog TV, I still don’t have a problem; only with the new “smart” TV. So I’m sticking with my theory that this isn’t something being done intentionally by the people making the shows.
I have a 35+ year old Zenith TV on which the sound is still very clear, so your point about the new TVs may be accurate. Having said that, I used to love the show Elementary, but during the next to last season, it was impossible for me to understand Jonny Lee Miller because of his accent, his mumbling and sometimes the background noise. I found the same problem with SEAL Team and can’t watch that either. What bothers me just as much, if not more, is when they show the face of a cell phone and the words are so small you can’t read them or they take it off the screen too soon! It it’s important enough to advance the story, how about making the words large enough for us to read?
When they sell a new tv they say you NEED a separate not cheap speaker purchase, also.
? The one who played too loud music was Abby, Jack wasn’t like that at all.
Amen! I didn’t like her from the start. She just didn’t fit. It was just awkward. She was always asking personal questions to get a response. If that happened in real life, she would have been punched. ALOT. I loved that Gibbs would give her this look, she could never rattle Gibbs.
