Here is what former Nigeria international Tijani Babangida had to say about Super Eagles squad and their defeat to Czech Republic

Former Nigeria international and winger, Tijani Babangida has weighed in on Super Eagles preparation ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia and their recent defeat to Czech Republic.

Speaking in a new interview with Complete Sports Nigeria, the 44-year old blasted the team for their poor showing in Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly defeat against Czech Republic

According to him, the Super Eagles squad must show more hunger if they want to make an impact at the World Cup tournament.

“It was a disappointing performance from the players. We expected  a lot from them coming from the game against England, but they  didn’t live up to expectations.”

“It was not a good performance and good result for the team. They have now lost three of their last four games which is not good for a team going to the World Cup.

“You need to go into a competition like that with a lot of confidence by winning your pre-tournament friendlies.

“The players didn’t also show much hunger in the game and I’m totally disappointed with that.”

Babangida who was part of Nigeria’s squad to the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France also gave an insight to Super Eagles' first game which will be against Croatia on June 16

He said:  “The game against Croatia is very important and if we don’t beat them, it will hard to qualify from the group,” the former Ajax star said.

“They still have some days left before that game and they must work hard in training to improve on their performance.”

We will do well at the world cup! Those guys didn't want to get injured. Sometimes it's good for people to underestimate you. What them at the tournament.

Winning boost morale. They wander the pitch every first half which makes them concede goal(s), then try to come back in second half. Coach should correct that.

What matters during a pre-tournament friendly is what the team learns or gains from the match, not necessarily the result obtained. A good pre-tournament match result may be misleading if one gets carried away with it.

Just as you said, Simeon Nwankwo should be handed the responsibility of leading the attack and let Ighalo seat on the bench.

It's shameful the way they waste time knocking the ball around in their own half.. who does that! Laziness!!! The need to be more business like! U can't score goals from your own half .. do that with mesi and return with a basket full of goals
