CARSON CITY, Nev. – Today, the Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District in coordination with local officials announced an emergency closure of public lands in Alpine County, CA, approximately three miles northeast of Markleeville. This closure is necessary to ensure public safety during fire rehabilitation operations after the Tamarack Fire which started July 4. This closure will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, and will expire on November 30, 2021, unless otherwise rescinded. 

The closure area includes all public land areas, trails, excluding Airport Road managed by the BLM Carson City District. Pursuant to 43 CFR 9212.2, each of the following persons are exempt from this order: 

  1. Persons conducting activities in the designated area where the activity is specifically authorized by written notice by the BLM authorized officer.

      2. Any Federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 

BLM will post the Order at the main entry points to this area. A copy of the Closure Order and a map of the affected area will be available at https://www.blm.gov/office/carson-city-district-office and at the BLM Carson City District Office (5665 Morgan Mill Road). 

Throughout the closure, the area of public land that is temporarily closed will be patrolled by BLM Law Enforcement.
