Sample Data for setup

In Zoho People, new sign-ups can opt for sample data. Sample data helps administrators work with content that is similar to actual data that they would be working with at a later point. Sample data can help in providing a hands-on test experience and provides a safe way to get familiarized with the product. Sample data can be deleted at any point.

On signing up and entering Zoho People for the first time, Users are drawn towards setting up their company details settings page. On completion, a prompt asking If you would like to load sample data in your account would appear. Simply click Yes, generate data or No, I will fill my data per your choice. 

Note: Sample data cannot be added at a later point

Sample data is different from actual user-fed data in two critical aspects :

  • Employee profiles from sample data cannot be converted into users. However, if the email ID of sample data profiles are edited, it will be considered as user-fed actual data. (can only be manually deleted)
  • Payroll integration cannot be performed with sample data.

Clearing Sample Data

Sample data can be cleared at any point in time. Simply click Clear Sample Data from the top right corner. From the listed modules, choose if you would like to delete or retain data as actual user data. When this action is completed the account is moved from sample-data testing mode to full functionality mode. Payroll integration, and converting profiles to users would now be possible as all data is considered as user-fed actual data. 

When clearing sample data, the following can be observed:

  • Configurations related to location admin, organization structure, assigned parent departments would also be deleted when corresponding sample data is cleared.
  • If any of the settings were dependent on sample data, then they would become non-functional when sample data is cleared. 
  • If a sample data profile was assigned as Agent for Cases, then on deletion the super administrator will become the Agent.
