A Message From The Dean
Dean, Rev. Can. Benoni Kityo
Harvest Thanksgiving Starts Today
T
he Cathedral has set aside November 6 and November
13 as harvest thanksgiving Sundays in
the Cathedral. On these 2 Sundays in all the services,
Christians will be expected to bring to God the
fruits of their labour throughout the year.
This year there are 2 Sundays
dedicated to the harvest
in order to give chance to
those who may not be able
to come on November 6 to
give their thanksgiving the
following Sunday.
B
rotherly greetings from the Dean’s office.
As Christians we must always follow the
inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Let us thank God for the Vicar, Rev Wilson
Kakooza and the team of Volunteers who are working
to improve our Newssheet. Let us support and encourage
them.
I would like to remind you that we have entered into
the festival season of harvest in our church.
Do the best to participate in the harvest. Give glory to
God by acknowledging his greatest. God is the creator
of the visible and invisible things that keep us alive.
This is the time for you to give thanks and be ready to
receive these heavenly blessings.
Deuteronomy 26:15.
15“...Look down from heaven, your holy dwelling
place, and bless your people Israel and the land you
have given us as you promised on oath to our ancestors,
a land flowing with milk and honey.”
We invite you to tea after the 8:45AM service
Served at the Kampala (East) Side of the
Last Sunday’s Sermon: “Don’t be like Eli’s Sons” Rev. Kyeyune Tells The Youth
L
ast Sunday, October 30, 2016 was Youth Sunday
in the Cathedral and in the whole Diocese
of Namirembe. The service was led by Christopher
Mukiibi and readings were taken by
Rebecca Namubiru and Victoria.
In his sermon, the preacher in the 8:45AM Service,
Rev. G.W. Kyeyune, appealed to the Youth not to behave
like the sons of Eli who, according to 1 Samuel
2:12-36, used to sin against the Lord.
“Enjoy your youth as Ecclesiastes says. But I tell you
do it in such a way that you do not sin against the Lord
like Eli’s sons did,” said Rev. Kyeyune.
Referring to the Youth who had graduated from Ndejje
University and were coming to church on that Sunday
for thanksgiving, Rev. Kyeyune appealed to all con-
gregants who are in position to assist the youth
(especially those in our Church) to get employment
to do so.
The story of Eli’s Sons
In those days, people used to bring animals to burn
them as sacrifice for God. What Eli’s sons used to
do was to keep certain portions, such as the front leg,
the jaw and the stomach. By doing this Eli’s sons
committed 2 sins; first they took meat before it had
been sacrificed to God, and, secondly, that they took
more meat than was allowed by the laws governing
sacrifices (l Sam. 2:12-17).
This sin was serious because it violated the commandment
of God, Whose law was that things
should be done differently from their way of doing
them. They also usurped God’s rights for themselves.
They expressed their ungodliness by appropriating
God’s privileges. They broke God’s commandment,
and in a manner that was offensive and
provocative to the people.
What Solomon Say in the Book of Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes 11:9 says, “You who are young, be happy
while you are young, and let your heart give you
joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of
your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know
that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.”
Youth Week: Youth Chairman's Speech by
G
reetings in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
I thank the church administration and all
Christians for supporting youth activities
.As we may know that 70% of
Uganda's population are youth and also that there are
few jobs to meet the big demand of learnt youth. I
therefore encourage you to think big and start working
on/with the things, talents, knowledge, resources
God has given you. Work on them without getting
weary for God shall bless you in them.
As it is well mentioned in our youth
theme Ecclesiastes 11:8-10 I urge you to ENJOY
your youth, be happy, be passionate about the things
you love doing that are not contrary to our faith in
Jesus Christ. May God bless you as you live this life in
Christ Jesus remembering that God shall demand an account
of your works.
The Cathedral will be witnessing and celebrating
the joining, into holy matrimony, of Davis
Newman Kayongo and Dr. Phiona Nansubuga.
Phiona is a congregant in this Cathedral; a volunteer
mentor and once a choir member.
Phiona’s wedding comes barely a month month after the
one of yet another member of this Cathedral, Diana
Egessa who got married to Tom Kasule on October 15,
2016 here in the Cathedral. Diana, just like Phiona, is a
congregant in this Cathedral; a volunteer mentor and
once a choir member.
We have also got information that another member of
this Cathedral, Anne Namutebi, will also be getting
married soon. She will introduce her husband to be in
December this year.
We thank God for these blessings.
