ScHoolboy Q Does Not Want White People Saying N-Word, Despite Stance From 7 Years Ago

Seven years ago, ScHoolboy Q expressed his approval of white people saying the n-word at his concerts. This past week, he had a change of heart and credited his previous stance to his past drug use.

The Top Dawg Entertainment rapper posted a photo of Hanif Abdurraqib’s 2017 book They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us, specifically an essay titled “ScHoolboy Q Wants White People To Say The Word,” on X on Sunday (Feb. 18).

In his caption, he wrote “I was on drugs… no I don’t” with a laughing emoji.

In the essay, he is quoted as saying that he didn’t want to be on stage saying the word alone and if white concertgoers paid to see him perform and put food on his table, then it was okay. Understandably, given the racial climate of the world and his sobriety journey, today he sees things differently. Some fans weren’t willing to accept his change in perspective.

“Schoolboy …my boy. u sayin this TEN YEARS TOO LATE,” one fan wrote. “You are quite literally the reason I will never go to another rap concert unless its f**kin biggie smalls reincarnated …. My last rap show was schoolboy q in 2011… never again .and this right here is exactly why.”

Another fan referenced the common trope of certain white people being “invited to the cookout,” meaning embraced by the Black community. “The fact that you had a whole long drawn out reasoning and rationalization of why you wanted them to say it is disturbing,” they wrote. “You the same ni**as that be saying a random white girl is invited to the proverbial cookout because she can braid hair. Lame it is.”

This may not be the most ideal attention for ScHoolboy Q as he rolls out his forthcoming album, Blue Lips. The LP drops on March 1, almost five years after his last album CrasH Talk. So far, he has shared the YouTube exclusive singles “Blueslides” and “Back n Love” featuring Devin Malik. This past Friday (Feb. 16), he released “Yeern 101.” Check out the music video below.
