Amtrak service returns to normal after brake fire

Rail service in the Washington (WAS) area is now fully restored.

WASHINGTON — Rail service in the Washington (WAS) area is now fully restored after a reported fire on Sunday.

Anyone traveling via Amtrak Monday evening through Washington (WAS) was warned of lengthy delays due to fire department activity in the area.

According to DC Fire and EMS, a train came to a stop at 9th and C Streets, Southwest after an employee with the company reported a brake fire on the last car. That car was not occupied by any passengers.

Investigators say debris caught up in the undercarriage of the last car caused the flames. The fire was extinguished with no reported injuries or danger to passengers.
