An accomplished producer, actress and philanthropist, Dia Mirza has her fingers in all sorts of pies. Whether it is to deliver a brilliant performance onscreen or actively be the face of pivotal environmental campaigns across the country, her sanguine outlook in life reflects perfectly on the radiance of her skin. In a previous Vogue interview, Mirza shares “I also tend to apply what I eat—so if I’m eating an orange, I’ll rub a slice on my face and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off. To keep my skin well hydrated and rid it of impurities, I use a natural scrub of walnut, plum and aloe vera and moisturise with either coconut or olive oil,” A clear indication towards her preference for mixing potent natural ingredients that are particularly rich in vitamin C.

3 ways to incorporate vitamin-C in your DIY skincare regime

Plum, aloe vera and walnut scrub

Plums are an excellent source of vitamin C and champion in lightening blemishes, dark spots and scars on the skin. It contributes greatly to boosting the blood circulation in your skin and thus, helps you attain an even skin tone. What's more, it packs an abundance of calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron, as well as vitamins A, C, and E. Your favourite concealer will be rendered useless once you begin using this concoction. Mash the pulp of two plums and add a tablespoon of aloe vera extract. Grind two whole walnuts to a fine powder and add it to the mixture. It is important to keep in mind to be gentle when exfoliating the skin with this scrub so as to avoid micro-tears of the skin.

Lemon honey face mask

The good old lemon honey face mask is one that is an obvious choice when looking to replenish the skin using vitamin-C. It is a well-known fact that lemons contain a high concentration of vitamin-C, thus, adding it to your skincare would exfoliate, rebuff and soothe your skin. Adding honey to the mixture would give your homemade face mask anti-bacterial properties and overall increase the potency. Taking half a tablespoon of raw honey to a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice and adding in the whites of one egg is as simple as it gets. Mix until the consistency is frothy.  Apply and keep for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Orange peel and tomato face mask

Facing the painful irritation of clogged pores and visible blackheads is something we can relate to. The next time you enjoy a juicy orange, save the peel, won't you? Excellent for exfoliation purposes and rich in , you guessed it, vitamin- c, the orange peel can bring back the lustre to your dull skin. Grind the peel of an orange into a fine powder. Add in the goodness of half a tomato and a tablespoon of rose water. Apply and keep for 15 minutes or until it's dried and then rinse.
