1983 Vespa P225E Custom Scooter

Lately I’ve been in contact with Canterbury VVC member, Peter Mickleburgh, regarding an upcoming feature for the JOURNAL and as an aside Peter sent me these great images of his early 80s custom Vespa..

“Paul, I mentioned my 1983 P225E custom scooter. Fresh from the barn and cleaned today. This was chrome removal by jet wash!

Now that PEs are welcome (somewhat begrudgingly I feel), I may post on the VVC FB to see if any of the ‘certain age’ brigade remember it. Disassembly starts tomorrow with a view to selling the frame.

I am struggling with letting the engine go. Take a look at the 1986 MSC invoice for £528 (which is £1,325 in 2021 according to .gov). That’s without carb’ or ignition (which was not available then). Even adding £450 for carb’ and ignition, £1,800 for a very powerful PE motor seems quite cheap compared with today’s 30BHP beasts. But selling it is cheaper! I need to get a grip.”

Love this, thanks for sharing Peter ; )

I’m pretty sure there will be a few VVC members interested in the frame and the engine either separately or as a package. If you don’t already have Peter’s details, let me know and I’ll put you in touch, email me at vespamore@hotmail.co.uk Cheers - Paul Hart.
