VALDOSTA — The Lowndes High boys and girls golf teams each secured yet another region championship.

Both teams have enjoyed an impressive streak in 2024, consistently placing first or secondnd in nearly every major tournament they’ve entered. Both teams recently competed at the Area/Region Championship, consisting of Lowndes, Valdosta, Richmond Hill, Camden, Colquitt, Carrollton, East Coweta, Westlake and Campbell.

The Vikettes shot an impressive 233 to secure their victory at the 2024 area championship and also the region championship for the third consecutive year.

Catherine Odom, Kayla Lee, Cannon Langdale, Marina Urdiain, and Callie Bellinger were on the course.

In a field size of 34, Odom was the low medalist with a score of 66, setting a new school record. Lee was sixth overall after shooting a 79.

For the Vikings, the six-man crew consisted of Jimmy Cohen III, Evan Hanks, Jackson Arnold, Mason Pate, Porter Scott and Pate Langdale.

Pate led with a 74, third overall at the tournament. Arnold and Scott tied for sixth with a 76 each. Cohen was ninth at 77. Pate and Arnold earned All-Tournament.

The teams’ play not only garnered the Region 1-7A titles, but a place in the GHSA state championship. Finals will be May 20-21 at Carrollton’s Sunset Hills Country Club.

The boys golf team is under the leadership of Stewart Thomas and Derrick Yarbrough and the girls team is under the leadership of Amanda Hughes and Erica Stone.
