Why are the 'ur' Words phonic cards important?

Our 'ur' Words flashcards are important because they help children decode the 'ur' sound. This will add to their overall understanding of letters and sounds.

The flashcards provide an opportunity to re-enforce the phonetical 'ur' sound. The constant visual aid will help them to consolidate and retain the information.

It is important that children learn phonics because it helps with the development of their reading and writing. Children need to learn the sounds each letter makes, so that they understand how words can change from the addition of letters. For example, adding an 'e' to the end of 'mad', will change the sound and meaning.

The 'ur' Words phonetic cards will also help children explore speech and language. Learning new sounds, words, and meanings will add to their vocabulary, meaning they will be able to communicate better.

If you need a light-hearted activity for phonics at home then take a look at this, Phase 3 'ur' Sounds Colour by Phoneme Worksheet. The creative twist on this worksheet will appeal to your little ones' creative side, as well as cement their new found knowledge.

'ur' Word Games

We know that children retain information best when they arre presented with fun and engaging ways of learning. So we have thought of a few ways you can incorporate our 'ur' Words flashcards into an exciting lesson plan.

Odd One Out: Print off flashcards from other sets of sounds like 'ow' too, then mix them up at random and let your children identify the odd ones out. You can make this extra fun by letting them play in teams.

Pair Up: Print off a few sets of the 'ur' Words phonetics cards, and then hand them out. Let your class work their way around the room to try and find a person with the same 'ur' word as them.

Phonetical Bingo: your little ones will go mad for this one. Print out some bingo sheets of different phonetical sounds, as well as flashcards. Then mix them all up and reveal them one by one. This is a fantastic way of broadening your children's phonetical range in a light hearted fashion.
