Description

This middle-school level reading-comprehension activity asks students to consider how they know that something is alive. The six characteristics of living things that are listed are: respiration (enegy use), reproduction, response to environment, regulation, growth, and adaptation/evolution. Students are asked to show what they know by creating a manual for space explorers to use when exploring different worlds - a checklist and possible tests so they can assess whether they have discovered life on another planet. Grade 7 reading level.
