Warm Up (15 mins)

12-Players with a ball each in a 30yd x 20yd area;

i) Dribble around the area using either foot, utilizing all 10-surfaces. Incorporate 11+ stretching

ii) Teach move combinations;

LOOP: laces, laces, laces, LOOP. Repeat on other foot

WEAVE: inside, outside, inside, outside, INSIDE CHOP. Repeat other foot.

HEIGHWAY: inside drag, inside drag, inside drag, OUTSIDE CHOP. Repeat on other foot.

GIGGS: outside, outside, outside, STEP OVER. Repeat on other foot.

iii) On coaches command (call Navy or White), player's color called must leave their ball and try to steal a ball from the other color's team. IE, "White" called, so Whites must try to steal Navy's soccer ball.

iv) Give each player a pinnie to "tail" into the back of their shorts. On coaches command "GO", players try to steal (grab) pinnie from other players whilst keeping possession of their soccer ball (after 20-sec STOP, they dribble around. IF your 'tail' is taken, you are out. As numbers decrease, decrease the space until you eventually have a winner.

Coaching Points

1) Body Position; stand upright with knees bent, head on a swivel, leg extended to make contact with the ball, knee over the ball & arms out for balance.

2) Contact on the Ball; Are players able to perform the skills taught? Is their touch soft and with correct part of the foot?

3) Shielding; Do players head check to see danger and use their body as a shield to avoid showing the ball to an opponent, whilst dribbling away from them?

Activity One (20 mins)

Using the attacking 1/3 of a field; create 2-gates (facing each other) on opposite sides of the goal and 20-yds apart. Distribute players evenly, Players near the goal have a ball each.

i) Defender A passes to Attacker A and defends the ball.

ii) Attacker A receives the ball and goes at Defender A in a 1 v 1 with objective to beat defender and get a shot on goal.

iii) After attack A is successful or well defended, Players B go. FYI; Players A switch lines.

Coaching Points

1) Game Like: Do players attack/defend as if it was a real game situation? Must be 'real' to recreate game-like settings.

2) Attacking Confidence: Do players demonstrate confidence taking on defenders and are they attempting to execute take-on moves to beat opponent?

3) Shooting Attempts: Are there more shots on goal than defensive victories? YES/NO why?

Activity Two (20 mins)

In a 36yd x 44yd area; 6 v 6 to age appropriate goals.

1) NO Restrictions

2) IF ball goes out, ball restart with GK or Coach (keep game quick)

3) Timed Games; 3-mins per game; losing team performs a penalty (IE,2-Burpies)

Coaching Points

1) Competition: Are the games competitive? Do players want/try/enjoy winning? How do players respond to losing? Head down, or more determined?

2) Composure: Even though the space is tight, do players panic? OR are they trying to use skill to succeed?

3) Tendencies: Do players react to the situation/ball to try score? OR do they need time (touches) and comfort (fav foot) to succeed?

Final Game (15 mins)

In a 45yd x 40yd area; Play 6 v 6 to age group appropriate size goals

Formation; 1 - 2 - 1 - 2

Emphasis in formation: Tight field, transistion formation, goals should be a plenty!!
