Rising Ground Fog : Limited Edition 1/5 Photograph

The morning was cool and the damp penetrating. Eddying fog drifted close to the ground, leaving colors and shapes diffused and flattened. Silence conferred a mysterious and contemplative feeling. The Bruce Peninsula in southwest Ontario separates Lake Huron from Georgian Bay. Its Huron shore is gentle and sandy; the Georgian Bay coast rocky and edged with the stark limestone faces of the Niagara Escarpment. Cliffs plunge 150 feet to the crystal clear water below. The immensity of Georgian Bay, with its vast horizons and infinitely changeable weather, is reminiscent of the ocean. Many islands rise from the Bay, and its beaches are strewn with immense rocks. The Peninsula is a sparsely settled region of forests, bogs, farmland and spectacular shoreline. It is home to rare ferns and orchids, varied fauna, a major flyway for migrating birds—and landscapes of great beauty. The landscapes in this series were photographed between 1974 and 2017, in and around the Cape Croker Indian Reserve. They were digitally reprocessed in 2017-2018.
