Ever the minimalist, Katie Holmes made an entrance at the screening of her film Rare Objects last night in a sleek black-and-red look.

The actress walked the carpet at the event, held at New York City's Crosby Street Hotel, in a silky black dress which featured a shimmering netted overlay on one side embellished with red fringe. She paired the unique piece with sheer black tights, silver sandals, and a black jacket by Tove. As for accessories, she kept it simple with long silver earrings, Vacheron Constantin's Égérie Moon Phase watch in rose gold, and a silver nose hoop.

Holmes wore dark eye makeup, a bright red lip, and a messy high bun with strands of hair framing her face.

Rare Objects premieres this Friday, April 14. Holmes directed, co-write, produced, and stars in the movie, which is an adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro's novel by the same name. "It is a film about friendship, resilience, truth and beauty," Holmes said of the film in an Instagram post this February.

And in a post today, she thanked production designer Michael Fitzgerald for his work with her on the project. Alongside a photo of them together at the screening, she wrote, "Thank you @michaelfitzpd for our seven year journey of creating Rare Objects together. You are the most amazing friend and production designer and collaborator. I am so proud to continue creating together! Rare Objects in theatres and on demand this Friday, April 14!!!!!!!"

The actress's big film premiere comes after she recently finished her run on Broadway's The Wanderers. The play follows two couples as they go through the ups and downs of married life, ultimately to question whether they want what they think they've always wanted, if fulfillment is a social construct, and happiness is something that can ever be reached.
