Bicolored Sallow Moth

Description:

Family: Noctuidae, Subfamily: Noctuinae, Tribe: Xylenini. A common Sallow moth. Thick-bodied and hairy abdomen tip. TL 18-20 mm. WS 28-38 mm. Peppery pale orange FW has wavy lines border with brown/purple bands. Scalloped PM line. Spot on each wing. Adults feed on rotting fruits. Hosts: Deciduous trees and low plants.

Habitat:

Woodlands and fields. (Found at porch light) Range: Eastern US and Canada.

Notes:

6 of the same kind of moth flying all around the porch light. Late season fliers, attracted to light. Some overwinter as adults and fly during a brief period in spring.
