Camacho buckles down to work

ROBERT D. Camacho

ROBERT D. Camacho, now former deputy chief for Guam Police Department, officially assumes his duties as the new chief of the Guam International Airport Authority Police today.

Camacho said his priority will be to bring the force to a better level of readiness. “It is important to have highly trained personnel and the right equipment,” Camacho said.

He said he also plans to make sure adequate training is provided to airport police officers and to improve the morale of the employees.

He expects his biggest challenge to lie in everyone making a smooth adjustment to new leadership. “Because I am new to the airport police, I hope to establish the trust and respect of the personnel,” said Camacho.

He said his prior experience should help him easily fulfill the other needs in the areas of technical support and resources.

Functions of the Airport police involve enforcement of regulations under the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Service Administration, Guam International Airport Authority and Guam Criminal and Motor Vehicle Codes, response to calls inside the terminal building, in the airfield and to security and safety concerns within the perimeter of airport property from Route 10A to Marine Drive and through Airport Tiyan property.

Prior to his latest position as deputy chief for GPD, Camacho was acting Director of the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency. He also served at the Department of Corrections of over 20 years in varied positions as director, Chief Parole Officer, Training Officer and Facilities Superintendent.

The position of deputy chief for GPD has not been filled.
