HOMEMADE PLAY DOUGH RECIPE

HOMEMADE PLAY DOUGH

I will start off by disclosing that once you make this homemade play dough recipe, there is no going back to store bought. I am warning you, this stuff is so addictive to make! But seriously, it’s the best. I have made it so many times that I have been able to perfect this play dough recipe for the perfect texture and consistency. Just two tips based on a lot of trial and error on my part, use the same measuring cup for all the ingredients and tap the cup full of flour so that all the air bubbles come out and you measure accurately.

An additional advantage to this play dough recipe vs store bought, is that it is made out of food grade items. Meaning it is taste safe; working perfectly for a baby sensory activity. I’ve also included storage tips below to make it last up to 6 months! It is taste safe, long lasting, and extremely fun for kids to play with. What more could you as for? It is by far my absolute favorite sensory recipe to make!

MATERIALS:

  1. 1 cup of flour

  2. 1/2 cup table salt

  3. 2 tbsp cream of tartar

  4. 1 tbsp oil

  5. 1 cup boiling water

  6. Food coloring

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a bowl combine the flour, salt and cream or tart. Mix well.

  2. Add the oil

  3. Mix a few drops of food coloring into the boiling water and add to the bowl.

  4. Mix everything very well and massage with your hand until it is no longer sticky.

Storage: Wait for the play dough to cool completely. Wrap tightly in plastic and place in an air tight container. Store at room temperature for up to 6 months!

Tip: Make sure water is boiling when you pour into dry ingredients, this insures to kill off any bacteria in the flour to make the recipe taste safe.

Warning: If making this recipe with your little ones, make sure only adults handle the boiling water as little ones can easily get burned. Wait for the mix to cool off before mixing with your hands to avoid burning.
