What makes us sceptical?

What makes us sceptical?

scepticismˈ

noun

  1. a sceptical attitude; doubt as to the truth of something."these claims were treated with scepticism"

In both our personal and professional lives we are sceptical of many things, new products, new ideas, new people, change, politicians, the media, has Greg put two sugars in my coffee or one like I asked? Scepticism makes us ask questions and without it we would put our trust in people and things that could end up hurting us.

Being skeptical is a good thing as far as I'm concerned, but like anything in life, there has to be a balance and too much scepticism can result in missed opportunities and regrets. Sometimes its a gut feeling or instinct, sometimes it might be thinking on a past experience, there are many factors that cause our scepticism. If I think something is true doesn't mean everyone else does and vice versa, we're all individuals and the lenses we see the world through are all different. Understanding that when trying to convince someone that your idea is a good one or your product will benefit them is important.

Cargo-Select is a new, disruptive technology and asks it's customers to change the way they operate, so inevitability it has been met with scepticism over the last 12 months. I completely understand why and empathise with those that have questioned its benefits and its ability to do what we say it does. My job, like so many others out there trying to promote and sell a product or service, is to overcome that scepticism. Not by telling people they're wrong or by dismissing their questions but by understanding where their scepticism comes from and offering an explanation that enables them to better understand our product. Sometimes that will work, sometimes it won't but if it doesn't I don't take it personally, I just accept that I'm going to have to work harder and smarter to convince the 'non believers'.

We are all sceptics and should continue to be, but at the same time remain open to the idea that people are going to try and explain to us why we shouldn't be. Not everyone is trying to con us, in fact most people are exactly the same as us, they're trying to make a decent living and if they think they have something that will make our personal or professional lives better, they will want to talk to us about it. Listen to them, question them, be honest with them and you may discover what they're offering does actually do exactly what it says on the tin!

Cargo-Select has the ability to help freight forwarders, logistics companies and manufacturers operate more efficiently, win more business and provide a better level of service to their customers. Some may think that sounds too good to be true and of course there are those who doubt it's ability to do that, but I know it can and we're working with people who are helping us prove that it can, so I urge anyone to point the biggest sceptic out, I'll make them a believer!

Stay Lucky.
