Ross Miller’s Post

I have often had people ask me how great it is to work in a profession that allows us to go to all the great stadiums and arenas around the country/world. They look shattered when I explained we are likely in a TV truck, usually underground, that is presumably parked out by the dumpsters. Today, I simply left the door of the truck open, insofar as the view was so spectacular. Thanks to BMG and the WCC for allowing me to produce their Beach Volleyball Tournament.

I had the chance to travel to Boston this week and help put on a great Health Summit for The Atlantic. I want to thank Andrew Ryback, Sean Wyborn and Mark Rusciano for welcoming me onto their happy and highly effective team for the week. I learned a great deal. But MOST IMPORTANTLY I learned the distinct difference between a lectern and a podium.

Not sure how many years in a row I have helped direct the Pac-12 Womens tournament, but what I do know is that this year will be the last. All good things must come to an ignominious end, I guess. Philisophically this is the only way to look at it, insomuch as any other way will just make you sad. One thing that did make me sad, the USC band played us to break with the song "Tusk", and all the young people in the control room had absolutely no idea what the song was or who it was by. Monsters, the lot of them.

My 3rd TI in the books as the World Feed Producer and the show keeps getting better and better. Professionally-Having the Seattle Symphony play an original piece for the opening ceremony gave me chills. Glen Wilhelm and Oyvind Johansen did a fantastic job cutting it. And using the power of AR Climate Pledge Arena was turned into a literal cathedral. Phenomenal work by everyone involved. Personally-Getting to spend 2+ weeks working with old friends Marina Mackrow, Glenn Stillwell and Nick Livingston was an absolute treat. Congrats to Team Spirit. Can't wait to do it all again next year!

My boss let me know that 2 different shows I directed were nominated for regional Emmys in the Rocky Mountain Region. A Rose Bowl show and a Stanford/Utah basketball game. I won’t be attending the ceremony, I’m not certain when it even is; But, this same boss said that if I win, he will but me a “very nice” celebratory bottle of bourbon. It won’t be Pappy. But…maybe Blanton’s? Frey Ranch? This is the most nervous I have ever been in regards to any sort of personal award. First one with real stakes.

It’s the best show I’ve ever worked on with the best crew I’ve ever worked with. Regardless-I’m excited that a show I produced (read-did what Sarah asked me to do) was recognized again, this year for not just one, but two Emmy Awards. Sadly I’ll miss the ceremony again due to the Pac-12 baseball tournament. Clearly my absence is good luck due to our victory last year. But do not worry-I’ll find a time to celebrate the achievement with a night involving one too many cocktaills. I’m a go-getter im that regard.
