This Monday the FISH Team wanted to share a poem by Michele ‘Mickey’ Hetherington, from NSW called ‘Pass It On’. Mickey wrote Pass It On about 'wishing more Aboriginal people could be out on the land being taught by their Elders about the beauty of our culture and what happened in our past, handing down to our children the amazing life of our people and the land that we are from'. “Pass It On Before it’s gone remind me  Show me where the wildflowers grow Teach me our stories from long ago Who made the sunrise, where does the moon go? Walk me back to the land that owns me,  Through the trees that know my name  The animals, plants and birds, we are but the same  On the dust of our earth lay me down. I am home again.” Mickey’s Mob are Wiradjuri from Molong. Her Nan is one of the stolen generation who was raised by two white strangers, forced to say she wasn’t Aboriginal, taught to iron her hair straight and paint her face white with makeup. The first poem Mickey wrote was “Unspoken”. She wrote this poem and started a quest to find her mob, her Elders and those still living. Mickey has been able to find many of her Mob for which she feels forever grateful and blessed. Her Grandmother told her amazing stories, taught her about respecting our Earth, showed her plants she could eat, how the weather tells a story, and how the land and animals can communicate with you. May we all pause to connect with mother earth and learn to once again walk shoulder to shoulder softly upon this land that we come from and will go back to one day ! #FISHPoetry #songlines #country #seethebeauty #Poetry #wecanallmakeadifference #openyoureyes #beautyisallaroundus #livelifetothefull #seethebeauty #stopandsee
