As we transition into October, I want to share a mission close to my heart and rally our community's support. 🔹 This August marked my 4th journey with the Pan-Mass Challenge Bike-a-thon. Along with 5,800 dedicated riders, I cycled 200 miles, all with one aim - to Create a World Without Cancer. 🔹 My ride this year wasn't just about the miles; it was in honor of a dear friend bravely battling gastric cancer. His resilience underscores the importance and impact of breakthroughs in cancer therapy. 🔹 Did you know? Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) researchers have been game-changers over the past decade. They've influenced a whopping 25% of all FDA-approved cancer treatments. It is World Cancer Day! Here at HCL, cancer has affected to many of us - whether you are a staff member or service user, cancer has played a huge part in all of our lives, and not in a good way. It is our job to bring awareness and fight cancer once and for all. There are over 100 known cancers that affect us across the world and it is our job to support research in finding a cure. That's why you will see us fundraising throughout the year for various charities chosen by our staff and service users (e.g: the Skipathon for Bowel Cancer Awareness that we took part in this week!) to help get that little bit closer to finding a cure. We also want to stress the importance of going to the doctors when you notice anything unusual about your body - you are more likely to beat cancer if you are diagnosed early on, so the sooner you go to the doctors, the better! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month  Lee, Rebecca and their son are doing a run in May 2024 to raise money for Cancer research. "We are doing this for a few different reasons. In memory in my nan who is sadly no longer with us, who we miss every single day. For close relative who has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. And for a close friend of ours who fought and beat breast cancer. Along with those who we personally know, we're also doing for everyone who has to fight against this awful, horrid thing. For everyone who has a loved one who has been taken away from them or even had their life altered because of this stupid disease. It's a forever on going battle, but you aren't alone!" Cancer is happening right now, which is why we're taking part in a Race for Life to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
