How do the results of the WAG & SAG-AFTRA strikes relate to a people and planet forward economy? 🎬 🌱 🤔 In overly simple terms, the deals included concessions for Pay, Benefits, and Protections from the impact of AI. What that all means is that writers and actors will be paid more for their work (rightfully so). That means that either . . . 1️⃣ we will have to pay more for our streaming services, 2️⃣ there will be less content, or 3️⃣ some combo of 1 and 2. Let’s zoom in on 2️⃣. In particular, is there anyone out there that feels like we don’t have enough content out in the world? I’d bet most people think not (let me know if you think otherwise!) What this means is that Hollywood is likely going to produce less but higher quality content. Again, does anyone think that is a bad thing? (seriously, let me know in the comments if you do). Bringing this back to climate and a new economy . . . 👕 Is anyone worried we don’t have enough clothing in the world? Nope, actually millions of clothes get wasted every year. 🥦 Do we need to produce more food? Yes, hunger is a real problem for many, but we have more of a food distribution problem than an absolute volume of food production problem. The similarities are clear. To cultivate a more just and sustainable world, maybe we need to focus on creating fewer, higher quality things, while prioritizing accessibility as much as possible.
