There is no quick or easy way to do that, if you want to develop a style. You don't need it to be forced, it has to come naturally to you. Overall the style develops itself but there are a few ways how you can develop a style faster and easier, that's what I'm going to talk about in this blog post.

I developed my current style after about 4 years of painting with acrylics and my style is still changing and evolving, there is no end point to this. Every artist’s style is a work in progress and it doesn't stay the same all the time, or you’ll just get bored. And right now I'm changing my style and subject a bit, so it's okay that your style changes with time, it’s quite natural actually.

Tips on how to find your style for artists

Firstly you need to create art that you truly want to create, the subject and medium should inspire and excite you, that's the only way you will find your own style, you have to create an original art for yourself. Don't create art for a sale or for your friends and family, create art ONLY for yourself. In order to develop your style the artwork has to be truly and uniquely yours. Don't copy the style of other artists if you're trying to find your style. Copying other people's artwork can be great in educational purposes but it will not make you closer to finding your own unique style.

Your artistic style has to be a reflection of who you are, what you like and what inspires you. Your style cannot be pushed. I would think of your own style as a style you paint in naturally, when you let go of all thoughts and rules and just focus on painting, not thinking about it. The style has to come naturally to you when you are relaxed and you can’t force it or it won’t be your own style, just someone else’s.

Create lots of original artwork, the more your own art you create, the quicker you'll find the style. You need to try lots of different options and explore everything before you can focus on one particular style or you'll be bored, or worse, you’ll hate your own style. So I suggest you to try every single subject that you’re interested in, explore as much as you can. Try different mediums that excite you and new techniques you’ve never tried before. This is the fun part when you get to explore so much goodness and creativity, I’m already excited for you!

Try all the different mediums that you like, subjects and styles. With time you'll be able to sort all of them into your favorite and least favorite categories. Try to focus your attention on the subjects and mediums that you like and before you see it coming you’ll have your own personal and unique style, like no one else have! So in the end you'll have a few favorite subjects to paint and maybe a few favorite mediums.

Developing a style will take some time but that's the only right way to do it. The style has to develop itself over time with a lot of practice and experiments.
