In Riverside, the Fresh Air Baby Camp restoration project continues to make progress and it showed its progress off this weekend with an open house.

It was built in 1920 for ill babies during the summertime and was later used by the girl scouts.

The group behind the open house says they are excited about the improvements.

The improvements include restored windows, added installation, a new roof, plumbing and a new HVAC system among other things.

There are still some things that need to be done including adding casing on some of the windows, re-plastering the outside and getting it painted.

They are also looking at adding lots of sidewalk and an ADA ramp.

Most of the work has been done by volunteers and Inkind gifts.

The building was facing demolition from neglect before it was saved by the friends of the historic fresh air baby camp.

The Wichita Historic Planner, Kathy Morgan says “the intent is this will get turned back over to the park board. and, anyone will be able to lease this building like they do park villa, the shelter, any of the other shelters in the park system in  the city.”
