’Tis the season of running errands in our slipdresses. Katie Holmes kicked off her jeans for a slouchy summer dress this week, as temperatures reached the 80s in New York City.

The actor and director is often spotted looking casually stylish on her errand runs around town. In the past few months, she’s been photographed waiting for the subway with big pants and shower-wet hair, strutting around the city in a floral slip and strappy pink platform sandals, and going shopping in chunky sweatpants and embroidered Chloé sneakers.

And this week, she pulled a style cue from the mid-’00s, nonchalantly layering an easy black slipdress over a red and pink tank—their spaghetti straps clashing and twisting in a way only Holmes could pull off as cool.

As for her errand-run shoes, the Rare Objects director chose some cobalt-blue suede Mary Jane flats—one of many pairs of strappy flats in her enviable closet.

Holmes accessorized the lazy-chic look with tiny gold earrings, layered dainty gold necklaces, and elongated oval tortoiseshell sunglasses. And, like any true errand runner, she carried a massive tote—hers in black leather.

“We live in a world where we have a premiere and you want to look nice, and it turns into being a fashion person, and I’m like, ‘Well, I just like to look nice, I’m not really a fashion person.’ We all just want to look good,” Holmes told Harper’s Bazaar of her no-fuss approach to dressing in 2022.

“I love my vintage T-shirts. They’re so yummy. They’re a little dirty, a little stained or whatever, and that’s me,” she added.
