Van Gogh 360° has been a global success long before Netflix’s Emily in Paris put it back on the (pop-culture) map. With buzzing shows across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the immersive art experience, which will project over 300 of fabled Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh’s best works, is finally making its debut in India.

In the first season of Emily in Paris, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) finds herself being an unwitting third wheel to complicated love interest-cum-neighbour Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and his girlfriend, Camille (Camille Razat) as they visit the immersive van Gogh exhibit at L’Atelier des Lumières. To the audience, it seems like the swirling movements in van Gogh’s larger-than-life projections are mimicking the ethical turmoil in Emily’s mind.

This isn’t surprising. Vincent van Gogh’s post-Impressionist style of painting, with his dramatic brushstrokes and lavish use of bright colours, is known to evoke strong emotions and his genius isn’t limited to the art world. Be it the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, one of the world’s most coveted cultural hotspots and movies like Loving Vincent (a real visual treat) to songs, documentaries and literature that have chronicled his tragic life — van Gogh’s legacy remains, for the most part, untainted.
