Roni Delicata is the pushy crime reporter for the school newspaper The Bloodwater Pump. Brian Bain is a quiet science geek who has a tendency to blow things up. Ordinarily, they would have nothing to do with each other. But today isn’t an ordinary their snobby classmate Alicia Camden has been snatched. Soon enough, Roni and Brian are on the case. But as they dig deeper into the mystery, they find nothing but Alicia’s hothead boyfriend Maurice, her creepy stepfather, and even Driftwood Doug, the hobo who always seemed to be watching Alicia from the woods. It’s up to Roni and Brian to find Alicia and reveal the shocking secret that led to her disappearance. An eerie mystery that never loses its sense of humor, Snatched marks the beginning of a great new series set in the small town of Bloodwater featuring two offbeat detectives you’ll be thrilled to meet.

*This book was read as part of Middle Grade Madness2023 TBR Challenge*

A short but unusually engaging mystery.

The two protagonists were a pair of oddballs with a strangely unique combination of characteristics that just worked so well. It created this offbeat sense of humour in the narration and character interactions that were surprisingly entertaining.

The mystery itself was great clue-hunting but with a very unexpected yet not underwhelming conclusion. The way everything tied together neatly without being rushed at the end was impressive because that’s a hurdle most mysteries fall at.

And the story felt quite humble. It was a simple mystery that didn’t try to do anything too outlandish or fancy without being bland and boring. It was reliable enough that you’ll likely come out of it wanting to read more of the series.

Roni wants to be a hard core newspaper reporter and tries to go over the top which lands her into trouble often. She meets Brian at the principal's office one day when both of them were waiting to speak about their current crimes. Roni had only tried to speak Alicia about the facts of her attack but it leads to a confrontation and detention. Brian has created a mess in the chemistry lab... again so he is also on detention. Together they hook up to look for clues when they get word that Alicia has gone missing from her dr. appointment late that afternoon. They find more trouble and the truth but they both still end up being grounded. Mysteries that take on a bit of the Nancy Drew element with a touch of the present day motives and technology. Brian and Roni make a great team even though they stumble upon the clues and or cause grief with the locals including Roni's mom who works for the mayor and Brian's mom who is a detective on the police squad.

There is a lot of lessons in this book the first one is don't make dumb choices, make wise choices in life and don't creep around at night with your friends or you will get in some kind of situation you won't be able to get out for a while.Overall this book is really good and i would prefer this book to people who like mystery's and cliff hangers. But i really liked this book and i would think about reading it again maybe. But i would prefer this book to like anyone like i said this book is really good i would rate this 4.5/5.

This book is called “Snatched” which was written by Pete Hautman and Mary Logue. “Snatched” has a lexile level of 610. This book is a mystery book about a girl named Alecia that gets beaten up and later “abducted” and two kids named Roni and Brian try and solve the case.
I think this book was pretty good but also really easy. It didn’t take long to read at all and I think that the central idea is that anything can happen. I believe this is the central idea because Alecia said that she was beaten up by a stranger but we later find out that it was her mother who hurt her instead. “Her mom was always smacking her around.” pg. 178. I think that its pretty spot on about the part where Alecia didn’t want to tell anybody because it would drag her family name through the mud and people would actually do that in real life. I believe that they also tried to make it as realistic as they could.
I thought the book was interesting and I like that it was more realistic than fake. I liked this book because I love mystery books and I liked how the kids just decided to continue to try and solve the case even though they got grounded. I also liked that the characters were devoted to this so much that they did research and went onto the boat she was held captive on and they didn’t let anything stop them. Roni went to go see the boat but her bike tire popped on the way so she decided to start walking until she got a ride from a nun that went driving by.

I read the book Snatched from The Bloodwaters Mysteries from Pete Hautman and Mary Logue. This is a book about a girl named Alicia and how she gets kidnaped. It’s started out as one day Alicia gets attacked by someone and they didn’t know who it was. So a girl named Roni try’s to ask questions about her attack and she didn’t get anything but her and Alicia gets in a fight and Roni gets sent to the office. When Roni is at the office she meets a boy who is younger than her named Brian they talked for awhile and she found out his mom was on the case about Alicia and ask him if he knew anything and if he didn’t to ask his mom but he knew his mom would never tell. So they started to hang out when the heard that Alicia got kidnap they went to the house to ask questions because the is were the cops were to ask questions but they didn’t get anything she kept asking questions and she try’s to figure out the case herself. I rate this book nine out of ten.

Snatched is the first book of the exciting mystery book series The Bloodwater Mysteries by Pete Hautman and Mary Logue. The book is about a high school girl who was physically harmed and later vanishes. Two students are motivated by the circumstances of her story and want to find her and solve the mystery. There are three main characters: Alicia, Roni, and Brian. Alicia is the high school girl who is harmed and disappears. Roni is a school reporter, who is determined to solve the mystery of the missing girl. Brian is a friend of Roni’s, he is smart and gets involved to help save the girl. The two end up risking their lives to save Alicia.

The book has lots of plot twists and turns to throw you off. The author does a great job of making the book suspenseful from beginning to end. An example of a plot twist happens when Roni and Brian believe they found Alicia based on all their evidence and leads but she ends up not being there. The book has several cliffhangers that come from the author changing to different characters' perspectives as they are thinking and talking. This continuous change in characters' perspectives does make the story a bit confusing at times. A critical point in the story comes when Alicia gets into a car with a stranger then later ends up getting out and running away from him. I don't like how Alicia, Roni, and Brian make several bad decisions without thinking. In high school, kids should know better than to get into a car with a stranger. Roni and Brian risk their lives several times by making common sense mistakes when they should have just called the cops.

Overall, I would recommend this book as a good teenage mystery read. The book had really good details and information on the environment, characters and surroundings, creating pictures in my mind as I read it. The ending was good, kind of surprising, and startling based on the people's actions and the clues in the story. They find out Alicia is being abused at home and she ran away to get away from her abusive mother. Originally it was thought that someone had kidnapped her, so they went through a list of suspects and got themselves into some dangerous situations. I plan to read the next book in this series since I found the writer's plot twists intriguing. There are connections from the book to real-life not only because the story was based on a town in Minnesota but it has a relatable situation for many kids. Some kids have rough home lives and they maybe going through situations like this, where they just want to get away. This is a sad truth that makes this book a good read because its believable and entirely possible.

Short chapters will make this appealing to teen mystery readers. Roni and Brian want to solve the mystery of what happened to Alicia Camden before the cops do in this story set in a town near the St. Croix river in Minnesota.

I thought this book was very exciting and action packed. I liked how the main characters were kids so I could relate to them. I recommend this to kids 13 and below. Even though I really like this book I thought there were parts that a little slow.

Snatched
By: Pete Hautman, Mary Logue Amaya Foster

The book i read was called Snatched it started out like a regular school day and then to boys we arguing over something and then they got into a fight the principle caught them and said hey come here why are you fighting and they both got suspended. There names were Roni And Alicia. One day after they got suspended Alicia was out walking around and she gets snatched! Alicia called for help and she called her friend Brian. Alicia told Brian and Brian told Roni. Roni was a reporter She reported the problem. They went through everything to find Alicia. They both went to one side of the woods to the other they got caught by police but they took the chances to find her. The police let the to going after they told the police what was going on. Alicia was in the woods behind a rock sleeping she didnt want anyone to see her. Brian seen Alicia behind the rock and also heared her crunching on leaves with her feet. Brian carried her to the others and her parents were there while her dad was on counchis and was being helped by ambulences and her mom was thanking brian for finding Alicia they were all worried about her even her enemy Roni. All of them were happy but Roni and Brian were grounded for not being home on time. ROni was grounded from suspention and Brian got grounded for not being home at 10:30 at night and his mom was really angry but he didnt care because he helped find a friend.

I really did like the book! there was a little bit of crime and mysteries and including school a couple of lifetime things you could think of like watch for you kids or be careful around others! Its a good book i think you really like it. The main setting of the book is snatched like its a setting of what maby the book will be about or what will maby happen through out the book its like a title of mystery. The main characters in the book are Roni Brian and Alicia. They all take part from the start to the end. The main conflict was like searching for Alicia and Rojni as the reporter for the school was to report things of what goes in in blood water. Yes i would recommend this book to others. Why because its a good read and you would wanna read it alot! Theres lots of things that goes on in the book that will make you wanna keep reading it. Who would i recommend this book to everyone i know its a good book.!

I loved Hautman's Godless, but Snatched isn't one of my favorite things.
First, Godless hits its late-teenager audience right in the center, but Snatched is extremely juvenile. The main issue - how a child who is being abused deals with the consequences of her abuse - floats around in the ether, then is dealt with in one short scene. The plot afforded loads of room for all kinds of interesting complications, but none of them showed up. I can only surmise that Hautman's co-writer, Mary Logue, writes for a much younger audience.
Second, the characters stayed amazingly flat, even though they had lots of potential. The two teenaged main characters have interesting parents and unusual proclivities, but the most interesting thing about them is their names (PQ Delicata and Brian Bain). Unfortunately, the name thing goes on and on a bit, as several of the other characters have weird names, too. PQ (who, for some unexplained reason, is called Roni)wears strange clothes and is called fat a couple of times, but she never really addresses her weight issues - or even really thinks about them much, though they appear to be something others notice about her straight away. Brian is adopted (from Korea) and skipped a grade, so he could have loads of issues, too, but seems to float through the story without suffering. In fact, that could be the thing that bothers me the most: I don't like protagonists who slide through their lives, unfazed by visits to the pricipal's office (both PQ and Brian are there often) and car wrecks.
Overall, though, the story hangs together. Mysteries are plotted very differently from other fiction, and this one is plotted very tightly. Snatched's biggest problem is that its audience is probably at 5th grade level, but its main characters are 13 and 16.

Alicia has been kidnapped. Can Brian and Roni find her kidnapper and save the day? That's the plot in a nutshell, but the complete mystery would fill a large, very complicated nutshell.

Brian and Roni go to the same high school, but the only things they seem to have in common are frequent visits to the principal's office. Brian's a science nerd, and Roni is an ambitious reporter for the school paper. Alicia is a fellow high school student who has disappeared. This first in a series dubbed THE BLOODWATER MYSTERIES has Brian and Roni teaming up to solve the crime.

For mystery fans this book has it all. There is the big old family house connected to a possible curse. Part of the adventure takes the crime-solving duo to Wolf Spider Island to deal with colorful characters like Driftwood Doug and a butterfly collector named Mr. Nestor. Add in a wacky police department, suspicious high school thugs who key cars, and a trip to Nun's Island to search for a missing boat, and you have just a few of the adventures in this fast-paced book.

Pete Hautman, author of GODLESS and MR. WAS, combines talents with fellow Minnesota author Mary Logue, to create this new series. Fans of complicated whodunit tales will not be disappointed.

it was a normal day at school and roni delcitia was a school reporter for the schools paper the bloowater pump roni was driven that she would get a good story for it the next day as she walked into school she heard everyone buzzing about the popular girl alicia camden being beaten in the park by a mysterious guy roni was determined to get some scoop on alicia so roni waited for alicia at the end of the day to ask some questions roni followed aicia throwing questions at her alicia was a snob and refused to answer any questions and soo alicia hit roni and roni and alicia went at it as they were brawling on the school floor when alicias mom pulled up and got out and started screaming at roni the next roni knew she was sitting in the princepals office getting a 3 day supension roni went home to her mother nick who could not cook but was making vegan meatloaf and it looked like a gross ball of grey stuff so roni told her mother the news and her mother was always busy because she was the mayors assisatant andshe had late calls any time of day roni sit down to her mother plopping a big pile of inediable meatloaf in front of her she took a bite and discovered it was rubbery and chewy so her mother suggested they throw it out and order pizza

She looked at the grass as blood dripped from her nose her hair covering her face and she new she was not ok. Alicia Camden, stolen out of thin air. Gone to be discovered. I am excited to talk about a book I recently read called snatched by Pete Hautman.

Brian is smart and creates things. Roni is a kid reporter for the Pump which is a newspaper, and loves talking to people. She is also old enough to drive. Alicia is tough and is very emotional. Brian wants to find Alicia and help Roni get clues. Roni is a partner with Brian in this case. Roni also wants to find Alicia and calls Brian stink bomb. The book does not talk about Alicia much while they are trying to find her but I am guessing she wanted to be found. But no one can find Alicia because she got abducted and was hidden in a place no one could find her. Also Roni and brian's parents where not helping matters their parents tell them to stop and that they should stay in their rooms, but Roni and Brian keep on pushing to work on Alicia’s case.

But one night There was a big storm and the boat where Alicia was being held broke. This gave Alicia a chance to escape. Chances to escape and actual escape are two different things. Sometimes, escaping from one problem also just places people into an even bigger mess.

Snatched

In my book, Snatched, there really isn’t any historical, scientific, or cultural value so there would be no point of bringing it on board. My book is fiction and is a good read for anyone who likes mysteries and thrillers but would not represent the greater portion of human knowledge. The book is about a teenage girl named Alicia getting abducted and 2 other teens, Roni and Brian, trying to find her and find out why she was abducted and what led up to it. Alicia was found in the woods by Brian, who found her on accident and brought her back to her family, in good health but a little shaken up and scared. Alicia told her family that a man by the name of Driftwood Doug was the one who kidnapped her but later, in her room, said that it wasn’t him but never confessed who it really was. Roni and Brian found the boat that Alicia was held captive on and on the side it said “Cap'n Arnold” which is the name of Alicia’s stepfather, Arnold Thorn and who also is a suspect in the case because it was said that Arnold could have beaten up Alicia but no one knows for sure. I would not recommend this book to be on the computer in space since there is no historical, scientific, or cultural value in the book.

Easy mystery for reluctant readers in grades 6-10. The chapters are short and the story moves quickly. Lots of possible suspects keep the reader guessing. I think this would be a good series for mystery lovers who like the quick, easy mystery book.

Book Talk
Brian Bain and Roni, otherwise known as investigative reporter for the Bloodwater Pump, P.Q Delicata, team up to solve a local mystery. Alicia Camden, a fellow classmate of there's at Bloodwater High, is missing and believe to have been abducted by a man in an SUV who picked her up in front of the hospital. Roni and Brian, who have both been suspended from school for a week, each for a different stunt, team up to solve the mystery. This, of course, leads them to trouble of their own. The police think they know who the culprit is, but as Roni and Brian investigate, they find some missing pieces that even the police didn't find. Can they put them all together to solve the mystery or will the wrong man be charged with the crime.

Snatched is a story of two young kids who hear of a girl being beaten up one night but no one knows who did it and decide to check it out. While looking into that the same girl is picked up from the hosptital where she was waiting for her mother and taken to unknown whereabouts. The kids try their best to find clues and ask people who know the young girl if they had seen her that day or know where she could be. They look for her for several weeks until they come up with enough clue to lead them to where they think she might me be, when all of there evidence takes a completly different turn leading them to a place you will only know if you read this book!

This is a medium length book at about 200 pages but the words a very spaced out and could easily be finishes in no more than two weeks. I would reccomend this book to anyone who like mystery books or even to someone who doesn't because it's not your typical mystery book! I loved it and would most deffinatly read this one again!

The book I'm reading is called snatched its a good book the book is about these kids at blood waters school one is a reporter and one is a helper there names are Brian and Roni. The book is so far about this girl Alicia that got taken and no one can find her the reporter Roni and Brian are on the case they have suspects but they think its only one person Alicia's blood dad. They think Alicia's dad took her for some odd reason but everyone is worried and scared for her. Roni also does some research. They won't go a day without looking for Alicia. Roni is a reporter so she is doing a mystery report for the world to know about and to also keep an eye out for Alicia and the suspect that took her. Roni on the other hand gets grounded for getting into a fight so she has less time to help out looking for Alicia so Roni and Brian do what they can. Roni got grounded because she got into a fight with some other girl and they both got suspended. They both still do the news paper and reporting.

1. Snatched by Pete Hautman was a book about Roni a crime reporter for her school newspaper. She meets a boy named Brian who have nothing in common except there both on the same case about one of their missing classmates named Alicia.
2. I would give this book 4 stars because it was a pretty good mystery book and it had some funny parts every now and then.
3. "Totally weird you mean maybe he killed alicia and fed her to a pack of carnivorous butterflies." pg 100. I just thought this was funny because it was a pretty serious situation and he is joking around and there are no such things as a carnivorous butterfly.
4. This book used a lot of situational irony and it made it more of and enjoyable book to read.
5. I would recommend this book to pretty much anybody that is into mystery and crime books. it was also pretty funny not to serious, but it wasnt that hard of a read as well.

When Brian Bain and Roni Delicata ended up in the principals office and then suspended for their offenses they had no idea of the role they would play in the mystery surrounding a fellow student. Alicia Camden claims she was beaten up by a stranger while walking through the park. After leaving the hospital where she has had her injuries checked, she seems to vanish into thin air. Roni, the curious investigative reporter for her school paper cons Brian, whose mother is a cop investigating the disappearance, into helping her try to solve the mystery. There were a lot of twists and turns throughout this book. The characters and plot were very believable. This was the first book in the Bloodwater Mysteries Series. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

The book Snatched is a mystery about a girl named Alicia who disappears from sight and no one knew where she was. The readers think that she was taken by a man catching butterflies. He thought she was a rare butterfly. Alicia's friends, Roni and Brian were worried and tried to find her. As the story continued, Alicia's classmates, friends and family discovered that she wasn't taken but was hiding. She faked her own kidnapping because she wanted to get away from her family. Her mom was abusing her, all Alicia wanted was her mom to be nice to her. So her family talked and then they all made up.

In the small town of Bloodwater, newcomer Alicia Camden has been attacked, and then mysteriously disappeared after her follow-up appointment at the local hospital. High school reporter Roni Delicata is quickly on the trail of what has happened, along with her best friend Brian Bain. Together, the two of them piece together the known fragments of Alicia’s somewhat disturbing life, in hopes of locating her. Alicia’s parents, the police, and others in town all seem bent on keeping Alicia gone and the suspicions away from themselves – so what really happened – and can they save her? A good quick mystery!

Of course, the main characters are largely autonomous from parental oversight. The text combines a 11th grade girl and a freshman boy. The combination of a HS crime reporter and a brain is good for a few laughs. The story puts forth multiple crime suspects and the reader and the characters are trying to solve the case of the same time. There are glimpses of the abducted throughout the novel, but only enough is shown to build the drama of the story.

The story is regional, including multiple references to the Mississippi River. The story is a who-done-it worth having in a classroom library.

Not one of my favorites. I felt that the mystery itself was less intricate then it could have been and actually easy to figure out. What frustrated me about the book is that the protagonists are teens but the book itself reads like a Middle Grade novel. The underlying plot line also deals with heavy issues that are essentially never addressed until the end pages, and I feel that the issue itself is one that needs to be addressed--at least in some sort of discussion.
However, 'm curious to read the two follow-up mysteries just to see if the plotting gets stronger.

The first in the Bloodwater Mysteries, Roni, an 11th grade school reporter meets Brian, a 9th grader nerd outside the principal's office as they exchange why they were sent there. They discover they have something else in common: Roni is investigating the beating of another high schooler and Brian's mom is the policewoman in charge of the case. An unusual but effective partnership is born, especially when the high schooler is abducted. This is a fun, fast moving mystery with great dialogue between the pushy reporter and the lovable nerd. Great for 5th grade and up.

This book is about a boy named Brian and a girl named Roni. Roni is a crime reporter for the newspaper. The Bloodwater Pump. Roni meets brian and they soon discover that gthey are both investigating the kidnapping of Allisa Camden. From There the chase is on (sort of) to find the abducted girl. I enjoyed this book it is entertaining for the reader. This story is told from the perspective of a third person omnicient narrator. The pacing of this story is incredibly off but other than that I enjoyed this book.

Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Roni Delicata and Brian Bain. Maybe the literary pallet of today's teen has matured a little more, thanks to the unrelenting bombardment of "street" realism in today's YA genre, but I still think this cookie-cutter mystery style still provides the light entertainment needed to continue floating above the darkness of "realism".

I enjoyed the story. It was folksy and entertaining, and it reminded me of the old Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney flicks that I still catch on TCM, occasionally :o)

Light and airy. Roni and Brian meet outside the principal's office when they both get in trouble. They again run into each other outside a classmate's house after she has been kidnapped. Then Roni quickly enlists Brian's aid in helping her solve the story of Alicia's kidnapping. The story is told in alternating viewpoints - Roni, Brian, and Alicia's. This helps add to the suspense, especially when the ending is a bit anti-climactic.
