This was my first ARC I’ve ever done, and I am so happy this was it. I could not put it down, it was such a cute read and the relationship that develops between Reese and Jimmy (and kale of course) is absolutely perfect.

This enemies to lovers romantic comedy features neighbours Reese Turner and Jimmy Gregg, owner of a tiny pug affectionately called Kale. She is a gallery manager at Poppy Haus, but seems unlikely to make it to director, as the current one, Janet, intends to stay in the position forever. She is trying to bring in some younger and trendier artists to the gallery and has been told if she doesn’t get on trend artist Alvin Hamilton signed up for a special exhibit, that she may no longer have a job! Jimmy is a general contractor who works flipping houses. His current project is right next door to Reese’s and they are the only houses at their end of the block. He creates loads of noise with his renovations that have been going on for months, but it is his dog’s incessant barking that really annoys her, especially early on a Saturday morning, when she is trying to get some more shut eye after a long and hard week. She stomps over to his house in her pj’s to tell him off about his dog’s barking, but also reminds him of a dangerous looking overhanging tree, that she want shim to cut down before it lands on top of her house. She gets somewhat turned around with his polite replies and handsome looks. Everything about him seems to annoy her!
When she is woken in the middle of a stormy night, having fallen asleep trying to get some work done, the inevitable has happened and she is not amused at all! Jimmy even turns up in the pouring rain to check that she is alright and has already called the fire brigade. She can’t stay in her own house after what happened and he offers her a place at his, not that she wants to accept it. Unfortunately, her house is deemed unsafe and she has no other choice! His tiny pug even seems to stop barking when she is around, what is all that about? He grows on her, as does Jimmy to some extent, but she can’t wait until she can get back to her own home. She has to rely upon Jimmy to fix her house up, a situation she ever saw herself in. With all the extra stress and sleepless nights, she isn’t going as well getting her new artist signed up and the meeting with him keeps getting changed. Her best friend is having issues of her own with a mother in law who has come to stay and pressure them about giving her grandchildren. Reese used to be an artist herself but hasn’t painted since her college days She blames work and life with getting in her way, but it used to be her way of relaxing. An end to one role, brings her to an ideal new role and a push to start painting again. Her relationship with Jimmy is even progressing and they are no longer enemies across a fence, but even getting serious. That is until he puts the house up for sale when he finishes his renovations and talks of moving on. Will she get the man she used to hate, or are they on completely different paths to the future? Wait and see.
This is an amusing read, with you being able to sympathise with Reese for all the noise coming from her neighbour’s house and how frustrated it makes her. Who hasn’t had a noisy neighbour or two? But when a lack of action makes her homeless, her neighbour is to blame completely. He does the best he can to help her and does a stand up job. With the adorable Kale, real name Dale, to give her kisses and make her welcome, she couldn’t be in a better place. I love the conversations between Reese and Jimmy, as he seems like nothing bothers him, whilst she is the complete opposite and you know she wants to hit him at times! A short read, full of laughs and real situations, with a touch of romance to bring it round full circle. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree was the perfect tale of enemies turned friends, turned possibly more than friends? While it’s more than understandable that Reese feels annoyance towards her neighbor, Jimmy, and his never-ending barking dog, Kale, it’s also more than obvious that Reese is a bit regimented and wound up within her own life. She’s used to certain routines and makes sure that everything is done in an orderly fashion, so when the unfortunate situation hits close to home (pun intended), the large changes that throw her off course appear to potentially become something that could become a positive in her world.

Soon, Jimmy’s humorous personality begins to endear her to him. And, she might even begin to melt a little when it comes to Kale. But it’s all happening around a stressful time, when things begin to look a little unstable on the job front, and she begins to wonder why it seems Jimmy can never take anything seriously! Not to mention particular females who throw Reese off course. Is he interested in something possibly more than friends, or is it just his way of trying to make up for the calamities?

I think it was nice to see what sort of effect Jimmy has on Reese. She needs to figure out how to balance out the serious with letting some things go, and he’s just the sort of character who can do that for her. Sometimes hurdles get thrown our way to shake up the status quo, and that is very much what Reese goes through, and more. This was a short, sweet, five-star read!

If you're looking for a fast-paced, playful tale of enemies-to-lovers that keeps things close to home (and has a sweet pet), look no further!

We've all had that one neighbor that annoys us to the point of wanting to rip our hair out. For Reese, that was Jimmy and his incessantly barking (but adorable) dog, Kale.

When a stressful week pushes Reese into closer proximity with her neighbor than she cares for, she soon begins to discover that he might not be as bad as she originally thought. In fact, beneath his noisy, house-flipping contractor exterior, he's helpful, caring, and pretty good looking.

With unexpected twists, serendipitous moments, and a healthy dose of casual misunderstandings, Barking Up The Wrong Tree by Tracy Krimmer reads like a movie on the page and is everything you look for in a rom-com.

While I have to admit that Reese wasn't entirely my cup of tea (I'm in more of a Kayleigh phase of life), I found the characters to be fun and relatable. I just wish the story was longer! I would have loved to have spent more time exploring the depth of the relationship that was forming between Reese and Jimmy. They had something special there and I wanted more!

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good romantic comedy and unlikely pairings. And, of course, must love dogs. :)

Meeting the Neighbor . . .

Reese Turner is furious with her neighbor’s barking dog. It never stops! The incessant barking disrupts her life and stresses her. But when a situation has them in close proximity, Reese begins to see that Jimmy Gregg really isn’t all that bad after all.

Parts of the story are cute. And I know I’m supposed go ga-ga over the dog, but I have a neighbor just like this who allows the dog to bark all day and night. So while I can’t say awwww, that’s adorable, I’ll at least say the rest of the story was funny and the characters were likable. (I do think owners who allow indiscriminate barking for no good reason are not being thoughtful to others. Constant barking means that if there is a real reason to bark, no one will stop to look because the barks are no longer associated with a warning, emergency, or even the dog’s discomfort. I still love animals, just not the non-stop barking.)

Reese’s next door neighbor has an annoying Pug that barks. She is repeatedly knocking on his door to tell him about his barking dog. She also, mentioned a tree that dangerously leans over her house. During a storm, the tree falls through her bedroom. She stays with Jimmy for the rest of the night. While her house is being worked on she stays with Jimmy. The Pug, Kale begins to grow on her, as well as his owner.

Jimmy and Reese live next door to each other. Jimmy hasn't lived there long and his dog is driving Reese mad with his barking. When a tree from Jimmy's garden falls on Reese's house she has no choice but to stay with him, and finds he isn't as bad as she thought. But what will happen when her house is fixed and he has flipped his house and is ready to move on to another - Will Kale the dog get them back together again?

This story is absolutely adorable! I love how Reese and Jimmy meet over his dog Kale's constant barking! Jimmy is flipping the house next door to Reese and she keeps asking him to cut down a tree that borders their properties. Of course, a storm comes and part of the tree falls into her bedroom. Since Jimmy has connections through his house flipping contractors, he is able to move quickly to start repairs. But, not before he asks Reese to stay with him and Kale. I hope we get another book about these characters.

This is a great read.
Enemy neighbours to friends and then so much more and the main character for bringing them together is a little dog called Kale.
Fun at times but also some drama but love wins out in the end.
