So, I must warn you that it has been awhile since I read/listened to this book. I say this because, some of the details would be a little blurry, but overall, I enjoyed this book. Which seems to NOT be the common opinion.

So this is the 4th book, following the wild lord Gabriel Sharpe, who by now, we have grown to love. He wears all black because he believes he's the Angel of Death and that anyone he touches would die (load of baloney, I know). 7 years ago, his best friend died in a race with him and now his younger sister wants revenge (sorta). Virginia Waverly, our heroine, has grown up thinking Gabriel as the reason her brother died (not really murderer status, but pretty close), so when she finally meets the man face to face, she challenges him to a race. All Gabriel wants to do is get married to her so he can help satisfy his grandmother's ultimatum and give back to his dead best friend. Neither of the expected to fall in love (though we did, considering its a HR and all).

I enjoyed Gabriel Sharpe when he wasn't emo. He was naturally easy going, with just a bit of a dark stain in his reputation to make him dangerous. The end part, where he's working hard to win over Virginia - that was so yummy. I love hard(working) guys.

Virginia wasn't a bad heroine either. She was easy to relate to and a bit of a wild streak waiting to happen, but sadly, she was not very memorable. Still, she had her moments matching up to Gabriel and being a cute horny heroine who watches her man muck the stables without his shirt on.

I don't remember Virginia's cousin's name, but he was a really memorable character to me. Kinda reminded me of Lord Stoneville but dandier. He gets his own book, but I would love to see him get a tough no-nonsense heroine to shape him up.

So, overall, it was a fun book. It wasn't the best or anything, and I feel like parts of the book, I've read/seen somewhere else, but Ms. Jeffries always does a good job mixing humor and romance, so it didn't really matter. There was a secondary romance for Hetty Plumtree, which was weird. Not that old people falling in love is weird, just that these two did. Anyway, I'll stop shooting myself in the foot and let you all enjoy this book.

3.5 stars. An enjoyable read, and possibly the best in the series. Lord Gabriel Sharpe made a great hero type, rough around the edges but not too full of himself. Virgina was likable heroine and a good match for Gabe. This was a fun, steamy, light historical romance.

After his grandmother threatened her five grandchildren to marry within one year or be disinherited from her fortune, Gabe took the pragmatic approach to finding a bride. Out of guilt he set his eye on the lovely Virginia Waverly, little sister to a man (once Gabe's best friend) who died seven years earlier racing him. The death meant that Virginia would no longer have the financial protection that her older brother would have inherited, leaving her future uncertain at a minimum. Virginia was a perfect option for him to right a past wrong, and to also satisfy his grandmothers demand that he marry.

After the death of his closest friend, Gabe risked his own death repeatedly by racing for money. Known around London as 'The Angel of Death', he was unbeatable on the race course. He loves his family but has shied away from making any real connections with other people. Virginia cannot stand the fact the her brothers 'murderer!' has earned fame and glory, while her dear brother is dead, so she public ally challenged Gabe to a race on the same course that killed her brother.

The story line of the two racing was a bit of a farce, as were other scenes in the book, but for a light romance it actually worked well. Bottom line, if you want to cozy up with a fun, light and seductive historical romance, this one is a winner. But if you're looking for more depth, meat, and intricate plotting...well, you might want to pass on it until you're more in the mood for the former type of read.

Steam Level: Steamy

For years, the notorious Lord Gabriel Sharpe has embraced his persona as The Angel of Death — a reputation earned following the tragic death of his best friend, a death caused by Gabriel himself. Now that his grandmother has issued an ultimatum, to marry before the year is out or else she will disinherit all of her grandchildren, Gabriel has chosen the woman who is to be his bride. Unable to see himself spending the rest of his life with one of the simpering debutantes constantly throwing themselves at him, he’s set his sights upon the one woman who hates him the most — the sister of the best friend whose death he caused.

Virginia Waverly has every reason to hate Gabriel. Not only did he bully her beloved brother into the dangerous carriage race that killed him, but he has built a reputation and fortune on that terrible event. The Angel of Death is the last person in the world she’d ever consent to marry. Wanting nothing more than to humiliate Gabriel in front of all of his cronies, she challenges him to he same race that ended her brother’s life. However, Virginia quickly learns that one should never bet against a man who feels he has nothing to lose, and that sometimes risking your heart is the most rewarding gamble of them all…

Despite the fact that newcomers to the series may not fully appreciate the mystery surrounding the death of Gabriel’s parents, I do think this one would work well as a standalone. As I have enjoyed the series in its entirety, I would of course suggest that readers pick up the previous three books, but I didn’t feel that they were required to appreciate this story on its own.

This was definitely one of my favorites of the series. Gabriel was a wonderfully tortured hero, and Virginia was stubborn without being obnoxious. I especially enjoyed Gabriel’s jealousy and unusual courtship, as well as Virginia’s struggle to balance her growing affection and attraction towards Gabriel with her grief and distaste of Gabriel’s involvement in her brother’s death.

I’m dying to read the next installment of the series, A Lady Never Surrenders, due out in January 2012.

Recommended for fans of deliciously tortured heroes, of stubborn yet vulnerable heroines, and of discovering that sometimes the last thing you ever wanted turns out to be exactly what you needed.

A very solid 4/5 Stars

** 4.5 stars **

Gabriel Sharpe is the least known Sharpe sibling. He is temperamental, a bit wild and a lot reckless or so he wishes everyone to believe. In the course of the book I got to see the Gabe everyone takes at face value and the Gabe that he truly is. I think the whole mess with that wretched race that brought pain and suffering to everyone only made Gabe more reckless than before. And people who didn't know any better made it even worse with wrong opinions and accusations based on feelings rather than facts. It's you, Poppy, I am talking about. You annoyed the ever living daylights out of me! I liked the man Gabe became when the book ended, when the entire matter was put to rest.

Virginia Waverly would have been a perfect MC in my opinion if she didn't follow her grandfather's feelings and continued to hate Gabe without knowing all the facts. She assumed a lot and at times I didn't like how easy it was for her to do it. But at the same time she was strong willed, determined and a romantic at heart. She reminded me of Minerva a little bit.

The story was steadily paced just like the others and was centered around horses, farms and hard work that it all requires. I like that every Sharpe sibling has their own sort of area of expertise that they are good at, in this instance, Gabe's knowledge and passion for horses. I also liked that this book was a bit angstier than the previous stories. Gabe suffered a lot more than his siblings not only from loss of their parents but also his best friend, and also not being able to find peace and his place in the world. Some paragraphs made me catch my breath a time or two. That was good. Enjoyable and vastly entertaining story.

A beautiful addition to the "Hellions of Halstead" series.
Book four is the story of Gabe or Gabriel, the youngest son and the fourth Hellion and Virginia.
Traumatized during childhood by the death of his parents, and during teenage years by the death of his closest friend Roger, "Angel of death" Gabe spends his days challenging life in its face by racing dangerous courses.
When one morning he's challenged by Virginia, late Roger's sister to a race as a payback for her brother's death- he accepts in lieu that if he wins- she would allow him to court her.
What begins as a pursuit filled with misconceptions becomes a passionate love story as truths are exposed.
I loved Gabe- his self depreciating- angsty but possessive character was perfect for the ever loving, loyal and strong Virginia.
Complementing were characters from the previous book and an unexpected attraction between Hetty and Poppy.
Smokin love scenes and we get a further glimpse into the mystery of their parents' deaths.
Can't wait to read about Celia and Pinter.

In line with the previous books of the series!
For this one the same applies.
These books can be read as a standalone, but it is better to read them in order because they're connected.

Büyükanneleri eğer bir yıl içinde evlenmezseniz sizi mirasımdan men ederim diyerek resti çekiyor.

*dancing*

To Wed a Wild Lord
4 Stars

The story begins where the previous installment left off, with Virginia Waverly blaming Gabriel Sharpe for her brother's death during a dangerous carriage race. Gabriel's guilt over the death of his friend, together with Virginia's limited prospects, motivates him to propose marriage. Determined to win her hand, Gabriel makes an offer that Virginia cannot refuse and sets them both on a path that may lead to either love or mutual destruction.

Gabriel and Virginia are an appealing couple as, despite their conflict, they actually bring out the best in one another. Virginia encourages Gabriel to see the man he truly is behind his daredevil façade while he forces her to strive for what she really wants in life - love and a family of her own.

That said, their initial animosity is resolved too quickly once they begin spending time together, and it is difficult to accept Virginia's sudden willingness to forgive, especially considering Gabriel's refusal to discuss the tragedy. The eventual resolution to the issue also feels contrived as it could so easily have been resolved if .

The minor secondary romance between Gabriel's manipulative grandmother and Virginia's grumpy grandfather is endearing, and the obvious love and affection between the Sharpe siblings is delightful.

On a final note, it is once again disappointing that there is very little development in the ongoing investigation into the deaths of Gabriel's parents. It appears that Jeffries will be leaving the lion's share of this for the final book focusing on the youngest Sharpe sibling, Celia, and Bow Street runner, Jackson Pinter. Hopefully, the mystery will finally be resolved.

Eight years ago Lord Gabriel Sharpe raced a race and Roger Waverly ended up dead. So when Roger's sister Virginia Waverly shows up looking fiiiiine, Gabe decides to marry her because ANGST. And also: BONERS. Also there's an extended metaphor about Death or something, but mostly: BONERS.

1. Again: poorly developed. No real depth. Absolutely shallow and resolved without any true consequence. And it's not necessarily a bad thing, but because Jeffries is talented and has intriguing premises and intriguing characters, I end up extremely frustrated by the absolute lack of ... follow-through.

2. The whole backlog of angst was whatever, but I did like the fact that Gabe was silent on the whole thing because....HE CAN'T REMEMBER. WELL DONE: I was not expecting that and I was amused.

(My amusement was subsequently killed by the "I must race to FIND YOU ANSWERS" nonsense that immediately followed it and then the subsequent handling of the ~truth, so don't think my good impression lasted very long.)

3. CUNNILINGUS IN A HAYLOFT WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME ROMANCE NOVELS.

4. ALSO SEX AGAINST A STABLE WALL SEEMS LIKE A PRIME OPPORTUNITY TO GET SPLINTERS IN YOUR BUTT??

5. I'm more into Celia's book LET US HOPE IT CAN LAND!!

Tür olarak historical seviyorsanız, Sabrina Jeffries'in kalemiyle mutlaka tanışmanız gerekiyor. Böylesi güzel bir seriden kimsenin mahrum kalmasını istemem. Gönül rahatlığıyla tavsiye edebilirim.

Not surprisingly I enjoyed this book a great deal! Gabriel and Virginia make a great pair and I of course loved every scene when the Sharpe siblings and their spouses were present. I do have a couple things to complain about. First (and this surprised me), as much as I admire and usually enjoy Grandma Hetty’s pluck and scheming, at the beginning of Gabe’s book I got a little tired of her hardness and intervention. I think I only like it in small doses and in Gabe’s book she was more involved. Also, the back and forth about the ultimatum between Hetty and Gabe, the General, and the other siblings got a bit tedious. Though by the second half, I sort of understood why Hetty was more present in this book – My second complaint is that we didn’t see Freddy in this book. He is my favorite secondary character and he entertains me to no end! I think this book could have used him for more humor – because it seemed that the major players in this book were many times irritated or snapping about something (Gabe, Virgina, Hetty, the General.) Again, this all could have been balanced out with the presence of Freddy!

The plot itself was just okay, all seemed predictable but not in a bad way – it was really the interactions between the characters that I liked best. I especially loved the relationship between the siblings because they are written convincingly. They know each other well enough to know when to joke, when to push, and when to stand back. For me, the romance didn’t take center stage and I was okay with that. As I said, Gabriel and Virginia make a good couple – good chemistry, just enough passion, and they balance each other – so it also gives us a feeling that their marriage is a practical union, as well as a loving one. And in that regard, their romance was also a means to marry their two very compatible families together – very similar to the union between the Sharpes and Annabel’s family. The in-laws as well as the couple are perfectly matched! Which is great to read about because at the center of this series is really about family in addition to the romance.

In To Wed a Wild Lord, it's now the turn of the youngest Sharpe son, Lord Gabriel, who has adopted the 'Angel of Death' title following the death of his best friend, Roger Waverly, seven years ago during a race. He only wears black as a way to atone for his sins, and wants nothing more than to make it up to the Waverly family, who utterly despise him. When Roger's younger sister, Virginia, reappears in his life, and challenges him, he thinks this is his chance, and also finds himself falling for Virginia. Is he just hoping to make up for his past sins, and fulfil his grandmother's ultimatum, or is there more at play here?

I think this book worked really well, but Minerva's story was better, in my opinion. Gabe was the traditional wounded hero, with a troubled past, and he needed a woman to help him recover. He was only a child when his parents died, and was reckless in his youth, and is still as reckless now. He doesn't want to settle down, because he is so guilty over Roger's death, and that galls Virginia like nothing else. When Roger died, she was left with only her grandfather, and cousin, Pierce, and has lost that security of knowing her brother will inherit the family stud farm. She needs to marry, but also doesn't want to leave her grandfather, and the hatred he has for Gabe has soured her own feelings for him. Gabe has to seriously work hard to redeem himself in her eyes, even when the truth comes out, and it was refreshing to see him brought low and humble in this way. The secondary plot between Virginia and her cousin, Pierce, the Earl of Devonmont, was a little forced, though the way it kickstarted Gabe was enjoyable. All in all, a good instalment in the series, and I can see how the overreaching arc of the Sharpe parents deaths is pulling together.

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

I don’t know what to say. I’m just feeling sad because I love Sabrina Jeffries’s books; my favorite series being The Heiresses, Royal Brotherhood and Swanlea Spinsters. But Hellions of Hallstead Hall has been a hit or miss series so far. I haven’t done any full review of any of SJ’s books so I’ll give a brief of The Hellions series at first. I won’t really go into the story since it didn’t really make an impact on me.

Oliver Sharpe (1st appeared in The Heiresses series), Jarett, Minerva, Gabriel and Celia, these 5 siblings lost their parents in one night. There have been plenty of rumors of what happened that night as both their parents were found dead together. Some said because of the previous Lord Stoneville’s infidelities, Lady Stoneville was upset and killed him and took her own life. In Oliver’s story, we saw a glimpse of what might’ve happened because his mother discovered him with a woman supposedly his father’s current mistress. This resulted into a quarrel (his mother was very upset thinking her son following her husband’s path). A guilty Oliver quite ironically followed his rakish father’s path, only he wasn’t married and had no intentions of doing it soon. Then, in Jarett’s story, we saw flashbacks from his POV. Like this, we see a flashback of every siblings’ POV that night and what might’ve happened. Now, Oliver’s Granny Hetty is the matriarch of the family. She’s been a strong, working woman herself who owns a brewery and makes plenty of money. She’s been taking care of the siblings since their parents died. She feels guilty for what happened to her only daughter because Hetty wanted her to marry into a title. Hetty’s done a few things here and there to save the family from the scandal of the possible murders and made up a story of her daughter killing her son-in-law and committing suicide herself. But no one ultimately knows anything. The siblings, now all grown up, have been called in by Hetty. Hetty wants them all to marry! Her condition: marry within a year, otherwise be disinherited! Needless to say, none of the siblings found it amusing. Minerva and Celia actually were spinsters, if one took a note of their age, 28 and 24 respectively, despite their beauty and so on. The siblings want to know what really happened to their parents, too. It’s been such a long time and been eating them up. They all have their vulnerabilities and guilt swirling around this issue. So they re-open the case and give it to a Bow Street Runner, Jackson Pinter (also appeared 1st in The Heiress series).

Oliver, now Lord Stoneville, then finds his love in an American Heiress, Maria. Whirlwind affair followed and they marry. I was rather disappointed in his story and after his dissolute life as a rake... just wasn’t convinced. Jarett was interested in the family brewery, so when Hetty fell ill for a while, he decided to take care of the brewery himself. In the process, he meets Anne, who also owned a brewery herself. She was desperate because of some troubles with her brewing business and a personal secret to hide. Anyway, the brewing business brought them close and they married later on. His story was also ok, nice but not full of many surprises. Then, it was Minerva’s story. She had been attracted to one of the worst rakes of the lot and Oliver’s good friend Giles (appeared 1st in The Heiresses series), who was a barrister and a spy for the crown. They had some love/hate relationship from early on but it never bloomed because of Giles’s manwhoring ways (you can guess why!). In her book, we learned that this attraction, unwittingly, played a part for both of them not marrying at an advanced age (Giles’s was as same aged as Oliver I think, 36/37 yrs old). But they were brought together by a twist when Minerva, who writes romance novels, is forced to put ads on newspaper for a husband hunt. Of course, Giles wasn’t happy because he’d always wanted Minerva for himself. Finally, he got a way to make her his. I rather liked this one, so far my favorite in the series. But I really wished for some more flashbacks on Minerva and Giles’s more scintillating encounters, with snappy words from Minerva. Without it, I had difficulties assessing their relationship as it was in the story.

Now, this book is Gabe’s. He’s another wild soul of the family with a ‘devil may care’ attitude. He’s not a womanizer like Oliver but Gabe loves horses and horse races. There was an incident 8 yrs ago, a dangerous race that took the life of a good friend, Roger, whom he was racing. Gabe’s been feeling guilty of it ever since and trying to ‘cheat’ death with his ever increasing racing mania. So far, he’d been lucky but his family is worried about him. We get to see the flashback of the night of his parents’ murder from his POV too. Gabe was very young but he did have some important information that he never told anyone before, thinking what’s the use. His parents’ death along with Roger’s has played a vital role in his life. In book #3, he sees Roger’s sister Virginia, who, it’s very apparent that loathes him like no other. Gabe decides that to help out Roger’s family who isn’t financially well-off, he’d marry Virginia. The whole story afterwards revolves around this. Virginia’s Poppy or Grandpa Isaac owns a stud farm and runs races too, so this should be the match made in heaven! If only! Isaac’s stud firm doesn’t bring a lot of money in. Then, it’s entailed to his nephew Pierce, who is now the Lord.

Virginia’s Poppy Isaac also hates Gabe. I was, at first, confused as to who the hell this ‘Poppy’ was! I kept looking for this girl named Poppy because it was clarified a bit later than my liking. This actually bugged me throughout the story. It didn’t help that Isaac was a stubborn fool and a moron. He was very biased and blind-eyed when it came to Gabe’s role in Roger’s death. He made up some story to hide the real one (of which he basically knew nothing about and yes, felt guilty because he said some negative things to Roger before his death) from Virginia and manipulated her to hate Gabe too. He manipulated her and blustered about Gabe throughout the book. Then, in the course of the story, there formed this epic love story between him and Hetty. They flirted, gave each-other eyes and OMG, kissed in one scene. There were rumors that they’d be married soon. Well, I have only one word for this love story: Ewww! WHY Ms. Jeffries? WHY?!

To talk about Gabe and Virginia, none impressed me. Gabe was a reckless fool. I didn’t like his irresponsible way of thinking and thoughtless living. It was too stupid and annoying. I could’ve admired his love for horses and non-rakish character, only if I could respect him a bit. Virginia was no better. I understood her vulnerabilities but I thought her losses in life would make her a responsible person. But nooooo! She craved for the same thing Gabe did; recklessness! As if it’d prove anything! And she races well too (how convenient for the stupid wager they made at first), even better than many men. I.was.bored! Only because it’s a novel, this worked out. Otherwise both of them are supposed to have died in one accident or the other. Call me horrible but every time they thought about how ‘wild’ they wanted to be, I kept rolling my eyes. For the most part of the story, this also annoyed me so it marred my enjoyment. The only part I liked was the last part, where they sort out their differences and for the 1st time spoke of things that didn’t include racing, Roger’s death and horses but something called ‘their genuine feeling for each-other’! I wasn’t convinced as to why Virginia would be so attracted to Gabe in such a short time after years of hating him with a passion. Just ogling Gabe shamelessly who was working in their stables half naked did the trick? I mean hello, weren’t you just hating him and now seeing how ‘fine’ a man he is, you’re suddenly in... what? Lust? SJ kept giving this impression it was purely physical. Maybe it was. But where is the substance in this relationship? I thought they were totally immature in every way. I didn’t care when they jumped into bed as Gabe deemed Virginia is his (possession, that was my impression). It also has something to do with Pierce, Virginia’s cousin, who was ‘used’ to make Gabe jealous. Whatever! He was another annoying and dull character; one of those lordly rakes who didn’t care for fidelity and oblivious of the most important things of life. A cheap rake and a whiner, what could be worse than this? I disliked him so much that if SJ gives him a book (I had the impression she might), I would definitely avoid it.

In the end, when the ‘whys’ of Roger’s death came into the light, I thought that Roger was very conveniently vilified (read: to look like the fool) to save Gabe. I mean the man wasn’t even there to defend himself! I didn’t like it, AT ALL!

In between, their parents’ deaths were still investigated by Pinter. One suspect/alibi turned up dead which worries the siblings. Gabe tells them all about the man he saw in the stables on the night their parents died. Some of the things are solved but its good that I still can’t put a finger on any suspect myself. The next installment would definitely reveal it all. From book #1, we knew Pinter has some ‘itch’ for Celia. Even then I thought this thing between Celia-Pinter is going to be something interesting. The excerpt at the back of the book only whetted my appetite! So I’m going to wait for A Lady Never Surrenders and hope against hope that this one proves to be better than the rest (except, Minerva’s story which I liked). 3.5 stars, simply for the ending because before that, I was considering between 2 and 3 star.

So sorry Ms. Jeffries, I still am your fan since you’re one of those early authors who showed me this wonderful path of Romance with your previous works.

*Update* from SJ’s FB page... from her conversation with some others:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, SJ is writing Pierce’s book (the next in whichever series is coming up). I'm gonna jump off the roof and end this misery. *shakes fist in the air*

3.5 Stars. So much better than book 3 in this series... I actually enjoyed this one.

So, this book is a little bit of a trope repeat of book 3: best friend's sister. This one is done in a different way since the best friend has been dead for years and the hero hasn't seen or lusted after the sister for his whole life. Thank god. There was nothing romantic about book 3 for me, so I was glad to see that this one was different enough to not make the same mistakes.

The hero, Gabriel, is yet another of the siblings forced to marry before the year is up - or else grandma dearest cuts them all out of her will. He decides that he should marry Virginia when he realizes how badly off she's doing because of her brother's death. He begins to pursue her but is met with resistance from both her and her grandfather. They both blame Gabriel for her brother's death since he died racing Gabriel in a very dangerous carriage racing course. No one knows the true details behind the race, but Gabriel is keeping his mouth shut about the circumstances, and Virginia assumes the worst. There is some drama, a short separation, and a somewhat unexpected ending that I really appreciated. It ended up being a really enjoyable read for me.

I will say that this book only got 3.5 stars for a couple of reasons. First, the heroine made some pretty foolish choices a few times that made me question her sanity. And last, the hero's promiscuous past, although it wasn't anywhere nearly as bad as what was described in the previous books. I am just personally very against the manwhore/virgin matchup.

Safety was fine overall; manwhore hero and virgin heroin. No others for either of them, but her cousin does pretend to be a suitor to irritate the hero and kisses her passionately in front of the hero. The hero was a manwhore but supposedly nowhere near as bad as his brothers, according to him. His past is mentioned, but not rubbed in your face.

Gabriel Sharpe loves to race and when he does he pushes it to the edge. Despite the death of his best friend while "threading the needle" during a race against him hasn't stopped him. But his grandmother's ultimatum to marry before the end of the year has forced his hand to make a decision. He'll offer marriage to Virginia Waverly, his best friend's sister, and absolve himself from the guilt from his part in his friend's death and give Virginia a home to live in. First he has to convince her she doesn't hate him or to insist that he race her.

Virginia Waverly has hated Gabriel Sharpe since the death of her brother. She's blamed him for encouraging a drunk man to race and has waited for the day for his wicked ways to catch up with him. In an attempt to prove to him that he's not as good as he thinks he is, she challenges him to a race. What she doesn't count on is his stipulation to the race: if he wins, he can court her. If she wins, they'll race again on the track that cost her brother his life. Can she win against the Angel of Death when he pulls out all the stops?

I adored both these characters. Victoria was a strong woman who has made the most out of the cards she's been dealt. She runs her grandfather's house and help with his stud farm without complaining. She figures this is the best it's going to get, she'll make the best out of it. While she's hated Gabriel because of her brother's death, she's not so blinded by that hate to figure out that Gabriel may not be the person she thinks he is. She was able to admit when she was wrong about him and admit that she wasn't truly happy with how she had been living either. Once Gabriel points that out to her, she realizes that he's the only person that truly see her.

Gabriel is one of those characters you want to shake to knock some sense into him, hug to soothe all that hurts him and jump on to have your wicked way with him all at once. He's wonderfully complex and makes you want to dig through his layers to get to the squishy center. He carries the weight of the insecurities that have developed since the death of his parents and the guilt of having a hand in the death of this best friends. He fears love because everything he loves is stripped away from him. It takes a strong woman to stand up to him and show him it's ok to let go of the past and look forward.

In addition to Gabe and Victoria's story, we delve deeper into the mystery of the death of the Sharpe parents. Seems something wicked was afoot at Halstead Hall nineteen years ago. Can't wait for the completion of that sub-plot in Celia's story.

After a short story by Sabrina Jeffries that I read way back in 2010, I was pleasantly surprised by this novel.

All characters are strong with arrays of emotions (wonderful character development), which is essential for me - hah, take that Harlequinn, after I gave a scathing review on this novel. I really need a good book after feeling my time was wasted after reading that.

My take on this novel..

Gabe has always always always feel guilty over Virginia's brother's death, because he was the one who raced with him. Unfortunately, the brother died in the race (fell off from the horse and ....).

Of course, Virginia harbored a deep hatred towards Gabe because of this. Thus, it was expected that they will be spitting hateful remarks toward each other. I enjoyed their banters actually.

Now, the hatred then turns towards attraction, because Gabe desperately needed a wife for his inheritance. His grandmother played a really prominent role in ensuring the siblings have to marry within one year or she will cut all their inheritance. He suggested a race with Victoria, that if he wins it, he will be able to court her.

Victoria's grandfather and Gabe's grandmother had a strong presence in this book. I love both of them. Even though the grandfather seemed to watch everything that Victoria did, I feel empathy toward that old man, simply because he feel that he need to protect his granddaughter (he had lost one grandson and Victoria is an orphan).

Thus, the scene with the grandfather, Isaac is really enjoyable :)

I love that the author gave the story on how Victoria's brother, Roger died from many character's point of view.

Roger’ın kız kardeşide Gabriel'i suçluyor kardeşinin ölümü üzerine..

I started this series with this book lol .. I'm going to go backwards after this

The Author has been able to create such a fascinating family. I just love all the Sharp siblings; they are all their own person with their own personality, view on life and issues.

I did enjoy reading Virginia as a character, she has the right head on top of her shoulders and thinks logically. she is responsible and passionate. You can see that she grows as a character from being someone who, while independent, can let the men in her life, dictate her decisions as well as make judgments based on her biased emotions. She shows that she grows out of that biased and judge the situation for what it is with logic. She does not allow Gab to push her around and make sure that her opinions are heard.

Gabriel .. oh Gab... This hero had me loving him one minute and getting so angry at him at the next. The man is hot, sexy and charming as hell. But he often acts like such an ASS!! So even now that I finished this book, I'm not sure I fully love him, but I don't fully hate him as well. Though his acts in the final third of the book just melts my heart.

Can I just say, how much I love pierce! He is hilarious!! especially when baiting Gab XD
I like the mystery of the Sharp's parents in the mix. I have a feeling that it will carry on till Celia's book which I will cover when I'm finished with the older sibling's stories.
So I'm going backwards now and start reading Oliver's story next =D
