Fallout 3 remastered looks absolutely gorgeous

Fallout 3, the beloved post-apocalyptic RPG from Bethesda has received a gorgeous new fan remaster.

Fallout 3, the beloved post-apocalyptic RPG from Bethesda has received a gorgeous new fan remaster.

Released in 2008, Fallout 3 is not only considered to be one of the best games in the long-running franchise but also one of the greatest RPGs of all time. On Metacritic, Fallout 3 scores 90 and above across all formats, and that even includes the buggy PS3 port.

Despite Fallout 3 mostly playing as well as 2015's Fallout 4, largely due to its core gameplay not changing all that much, its visuals are looking a little dated. To be fair, this should come as no surprise when you consider that this game is 15 years old, at the time of writing.

Unfortunately, there is no sign of Bethesda wanting to remaster this beloved classic RPG any time soon. Thankfully, however, as reported by DSOgaming, a talented modder has taken matters into their own hands.

The modder in question goes by the name of ‘ilamalamer’, and they have created the ‘LipstickTexture Pack’, now available on Nexusmods. This HD texture pack comes in at a modest 10GB and takes advantage of upscaled AI software, resulting in Fallout 3 arguably looking better than ever.

That being said, DSOGaming warns that this mod overhauls the game's textures and is not compatible with previous Fallout 3 HD texture packs. So please keep that in mind before installing.

In related news, a live-action Fallout TV series is on the way from Amazon. However, the publisher of the video game series, Bethesda, has confirmed that it won't be a retelling of the third and fourth games. Elsewhere, a Fallout: New Vegas 2 tease appeared online before it was mysteriously deleted.

Fallout 3 is available for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. What’s more, it’s also backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Happy days!
