Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani of Afghanistan

On October 30, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani of Afghanistan, who came to Beijing to attend the fourth Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan.

Wang Yi said that President Ashraf Ghani’s visit to China achieved a complete success. The leaders of China and Afghanistan reached important consensus on deepening the bilateral relations, charted the course for the future development of the bilateral relations, and made planning for bilateral practical cooperation in various fields. It fully reflects China’s support to the new government of Afghanistan as well as great importance China attaches to China-Afghanistan relations. The two sides should jointly well implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, so as to promote China-Afghanistan relations for further development. Wang Yi said that Afghanistan is confronting three major tasks of political reconciliation, economic rebuilding and secure transition. The future of Afghanistan is controlled in the hands of the Afghan people, yet the support from the international community, especially from neighboring countries, is also indispensable. China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Afghanistan, making efforts to promote the Foreign Ministerial Conference for positive results and send out a clear signal.

Osmania said that the Afghan government appreciates China for its warm reception to President Ghani and believes that this visit will definitely deepen the Afghanistan-China traditional friendship and enhance the bilateral cooperation in various fields. Afghanistan thanks China for hosting the Foreign Ministerial Conference, and is willing to work with China closely to make this Conference a success.
