We are in the year 2023, meaning Nintendo fans would have to wait a few more months for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to hit the shelves. This much-awaited game is set to release on May 12. But aside from the game, there are also a lot of rumors about Nintendo releasing the successor of their Switch console.

Now talking about rumors, fans have already started to speculate a lot about the upcoming Zelda title. But one of the main focuses of their speculation is Malice. Yes, that same black-and-magenta gooey substance from the 2017-released Breath of the Wild. Those who played Breath of the Wild should remember that Malice was a natural hazard that was spread across the Hyrule Kingdom.

It acted as a passage barrier which made players look for another way. Moreover, it also caused damage to the player upon contact and also summoned demons. If that was not enough, it also infected the dragon Naydra. There are possibilities that this Malice is going to play a way bigger role in the upcoming Zelda title than before.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom trailers hint at a bigger role for Malice

But for those who thought that was the extent of Malice’s effect, Tears of Kingdom might prove wrong. The first announcement trailer for the upcoming Zelda title revealed the source of Malice. To everyone’s surprise, it is from a rotting corpse, and that too of Ganondorf. We can predict that he would be the main antagonistic figure who can control this malice.

Those trailers gave a small glimpse of what more this Malice can do like lifting the entire Hyrule castle up in the sky. Also, we got to see some of it chase after a living mouse, hinting that this black-and-magenta gooey substance would have a more aggressive and malicious nature in the upcoming Zelda title.

Fans should expect that it will keep its original purpose as in Breath of Wild. But there would be more like the main villain might use it to control others as it did with Naydra. Also, there is a possibility that there can be sequences where the player might just have to run from this malicious gooey substance.
