The details are starting to fall into place for the Venom sequel which has Tom Hardy back as Eddie Brock and his otherworldly symbiote dark passenger and Andy Serkis plunking himself down in the director's chair. With villain Carnage all but guaranteed to feature in the new movie (Woody Harrelson appeared in a post-credits scene of the original as Cletus Kasaday, the character's human host), Deadline reports that Sony is adding Shriek to the plot.
While the studio has naturally yet to confirm anything (the film doesn't even kick off shooting until early next year), Shriek would seem to be a natural fit for any story that has Carnage. Introduced in Spider–Man Unlimited issue 1 in May 1990, she starts life as Frances Barrison, who become the volatile Shriek after severe trauma allows her latent mutant powers to emerge. In the comics, those powers include sonic energy blasts, flight, and the ability to stir up dark and violent emotions in others.
Sony is apparently on the hunt for someone to play her right now, with a wide field and a leaning towards finding an unknown. Whoever scores the role will star opposite Hardy and, assuming he's definitely contracted for it, Harrelson.
Venom 2 (or whatever it ends up being named) will be in cinemas in October next year.
