Introduction:

Bursa is Turkey’s fourth most populous city. Moreover, it is one of the most prominent investment destinations in Turkey. It is located in the northwest of Turkey in the Marmara region. In addition, Bursa has many tourist attractions, landmarks and historical monuments.

 

The history of Bursa:

The history of Bursa goes back more than 8,500 years. Moreover, according to studies,  more than thirty hills in Bursa were villages.. in which people lived in prehistoric times.

With the passage of time, these societies united, forming the Bithynia Kingdom, which ruled Bursa in 1200 BC.

One of the Bithynian kings called Prusias founded the city of Prusa, which represents the foundation of the city of Bursa today.. and that was about BC two centuries.

During this long period, Bursa was subjected to a Persian invasion. Moreover, Bursa was under their control for a period of time before they were expelled from Anatolia.

In the Roman era:

Bursa became an important area for Christians. Moreover, more than 50 monasteries and churches were built in different areas beside Mount Uludag. Furthermore, Bursa witnessed prosperity and development until it became the most prominent and important region during the rule of the Romans.

In 1080, Bursa came under the control of Seljuks.. and Iznik district of Bursa became the capital of the Seljuk state in Anatolia.

In 1299, the Ottoman Empire was established in Sogut and began to expand. Then, the entire Bursa came under the control of the Ottoman Empire at the time of Sultan Osman Ghazi and his son Orhan. Thus, it was the beginning of the Ottoman Empire and its capital, Bursa.

It is worth noting that Bursa, the capital of the Ottoman Empire, witnessed a great renaissance and urban and cultural prosperity.. as Sultan Murad continued the reconstruction work in Bursa and built Muradiye complex in Bursa.

With the conquest of Istanbul in 1453:

The center of the Ottoman Empire moved from the city of Bursa to the current city of Istanbul.. With the passage of time.. in 1920, the Greeks occupied the city of Bursa. Moreover, Bursa experienced a period of conflict and war.. until it was liberated and re-incorporated into the Turkish Republic in 1922 after the famous Mudanya armistice.

In the era of the First Republic, Bursa witnessed a renaissance and development at the agricultural and commercial levels. Furthermore, the industrial renaissance began.. and industry flourished with the construction of industrial enterprises and the opening of the famous Bursa factory by Kemal Ataturk.

In addition, Bursa is an important city in terms of tourism and culture due to its great archaeological sites and heritage.

 

Bursa between pain and creativity:

When the center of the capital of the Ottoman Empire moved from Bursa to Istanbul, the city of Bursa lost its political and cultural importance. However, Bursa soon recovered from the political and cultural volatility.. and presented immortal innovations and achievements.

In 1920, Greece occupied the city of Bursa and it remained under occupation for two years.. and the Grand National Assembly in Bursa covered the platform with a black cloth until the liberation of Bursa.

Thus, with every setback in Bursa city, Bursa becomes stronger than before.

 

Loyalty – Solidarity in Bursa society:

You rarely find a city like Bursa that has remained faithful to its past and traditions.. even though it is one of the leading Turkish cities in the fields of industry and technology.

Moreover, for decades, Bursa has been receiving immigrants from different countries.. providing them with services, and showing them its solidarity and sympathy.

It is worth noting that this tradition began with Sultan Osman Ghazi. who was famous for helping the poor and needy. Thus, we can call it the Ottoman approach to social assistance.

In addition, many of the people of Bursa today aspire to spread these social virtues.
