Fred was born August 9, 1928, in Waco, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return, Fred embarked on a career in real estate in Southern California and then medicine. He earned a B.A. in economics from SMU and a Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine, followed by three years of residency in Psychiatry at University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. He was Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. For many years, he had a private practice as a psychiatrist in Houston. He was also engaged in forensic psychiatry and testified as an expert witness in state and federal courts in both criminal and civil proceedings.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Eugene B. Fason and Idelle S. Fason, his sister Jerry A. Black, his brother Stewart E. Fason, and his daughter Catherine A. Fason. Survivors include his son John S. Fason and daughter-in-law Mary Helen Fason; son William E. Fason, son Richard L. Fason, two grandsons James D. Fason and Harrison T. Fason, as well as his ex-wife Rita Miller Fason, and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the 31st day of July, 2012, in the chapel of at Waltrip Funeral Directors.
