Yik Yak truck kicked off UCF campus

After no more than an hour on the Free Speech Lawn, the seven young men and women of the Yik Yak Yakarma Kart were kicked off UCF's campus for commercial solicitation.

The Yakarma Kart, a converted ice cream truck, is on a 14-state, 29-campus tour across the East Coast to promote the social media app Yik Yak. The app connects users within a certain geographic distance to a message board unique to their city or campus.

Tour manager Joe Barry said that the Yakarma Kart planned to relocate to Knight's Pub following its expulsion from campus grounds. As part of their promotional tour, the Kart's riders will be handing out free Yik Yak-branded gear to visitors and Yik Yak users.

"We're trying to give back to our users with this tour," Barry said. "We converted this old ice cream car and filled it with swag. We're giving out stuff based on users' Yakarma scores [a measure of user engagement]: koozies, pens, stickers, beanies, socks, you name it."

The Kart will be in town until Saturday, after which it will continue on its tour to Miami and beyond.

The Yakarma Kart will be at The Knight's Pub until 10:30 p.m., when it will move to Knight Library for the rest of the night.
