Rochester’s three new peregrine falcons are now sporting bling.

Tuesday morning, the fluffy, white eyases, born earlier this month to adult peregrine falcon pair Beauty and Dot.ca, were fitted with colored, numbered leg bands. Put in place by state Department of Environmental Conservation workers, the bands enable the agency and falcon watchers to track the birds, which are designated an endangered species in New York state.

The names of the eyases, chosen in a poll at Rfalconcam.com, also were revealed:

• Female Sundara (Nepali for “beautiful”) was named by Carrie Shone of Rochester.

• Letchworth, another female, was named by Jill Langdon’s kindergarten class at Helendale Road Primary School in Irondequoit.

• Mike, a male, was named by Sue Spicer Allen of Rochester for the late Mike Allen, a DEC wildlife technician who in 1996 became one of the first people to climb to the top of Eastman Kodak Co. headquarters to find young falcons in the nest box. Allen, who died last year, also led the Bald Eagle Restoration Program and worked on programs involving river otters and black bears.

Rfalconcam.com, run by the Genesee Valley Audubon Society, lets people view photos and a 24/7 livestream of a nest box that’s been atop downtown’s iconic Times Square Building since 2008 and has long been home to Beauty, “DC” and their offspring.

In the next few weeks, the youngsters will start spreading their wings, and falcon watchers are needed to monitor those early flights (which sometimes go awry). A training session is being held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Times Square building, which is on Exchange Boulevard at Broad Street.
