Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to shift sub collector Divya S Iyer and post her as deputy secretary Local Self Government depar-tment. Fort Kochi Sub Collector Imbashekher will be the new Trivandrum Sub Collector.
The decision to shift Ms Iyer comes a fortnight after revenue minister E Chandrase-kharan directed the land revenue commissioner to enquire into the decision taken by her to scrap the Varkala tahsildar’s 2017 order to take over 24 cents of land in Ilakamon panchayat in Varkala. The minister had ordered the probe following a complaint filed by Varkala MLA V. Joy against the sub-collector's action.
The commissioner who was directed to check whether there was any failure on the part of sub collector in protecting public land, is yet to submit the probe report to the minister.
Mr Joy had accused Ms Iyer of not consulting revenue authorities before cancelling the order to take over the 27 cents of land. Ms Iyer on her part had clarified that she had not restored the land to the complainant but only cancelled the tahsildar’s order. “My decision was based on the evidence presented before me,” she pointed out and added “There was no conclusive proof to show that the land in question was ‘poramboke land.”
