1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

The body style of the new 1967 Impala was redesigned to give this car a longer look.  This new longer look still remained on the same standard wheelbase.  Both the Impala and the Impala Super Sport now featured great "fastback" styling of the rear roof lines and back glass.  The rear quarter panels took on a rounder fuller look as well.  This look has become known as the "Coke bottle" look.  The grill of the '67 Impala was redesigned into a lattice-work pattern.

For consignment, a 1967 version of the impressive and long lasting Impala model from Chevrolet.  This red respray painted bowtie presents beautifully, has a power top, some air shocks for the rear, shiny 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, and fully original and not patched rust free flooring to button it all up.  Turn the key and start the chase, as I harken back to the African Savannah!

Exterior
This classic spent its life in Georgia, so it's rust free, and has well minded gaps with straight steel.  Resprayed in correct Bolero Red, the lines are just beautifully done for this years re-design.  The paint shows some peeling, faults and previous repairs, and some “pull off” areas paint had begun to shrink creating flaws on the surface.  Faint lines of previous patchwork are showing on the front fenders around the wheel wells.  From its lattice work chromed grille flanked by dual headlights and a shiny bumper below, to the coke bottle undulating lines of the fenders, and the iconic Impala trio of tail lights which were used in every iteration to this date and would continue.  Badging is all correct, a chromed trim piece runs the length of the car just above the rockers, and ties the front and rear bumpers together.  A white canvas top is on and even though it's a rag top, it still emulates the fastback design of its hardtop siblings.  The top is in excellent condition.

Interior
In contrast to the exterior and keeping with the top, Parchment white vinyl covers most of the interior surfaces.  The door panels use it in embossed square and rectangle stitched look for the uppers, and smooth lowers bordered by a white vinyl padded armrest, actuator and window cranks.  Black carpeting is covering the lowers and this matches the floor coverings in the interior.  A white low back split bench is in front, and a full bench in back.  All clean and nicely preserved for white!  The original GM dash is in factory condition and shows as showroom with no dirt or changes to the gauges or setup.  This dash is black and has a peppering of chromed trimmings and aluminum strips.  In the center of the rear bench on top is the radio speaker, also a standard of the Impala style.

Drivetrain
Within a simple engine bay which you can actually look down through and see the street below, sits an orange painted block with orange painted valve coverings in date correct and likely original 327ci form.  It is fed by a factory 4-barrel carburetor and a newer TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is on back.  A 12 bolt 2.73 gear pumpkin and axle are in back.  All very clean, not unlike the rest of this classic classy car.  Pertronix supplies the ignition, and stock dual exhaust like new is installed.

Undercarriage
When you purchase this car make sure to also run out and get a full length mirror so you can show off the underside.  Here we see a like new fuel tank, and totally rust and road dirt free steel underside.  All very sound with front independent coil spring suspension and power steering and power drum brakes.  In back is a 4-link with coil springs and new air shocks, as well as more power drum brakes.

Drive-Ability
She fired right up and off to the test track where I first tested the panic stop braking and it performed bias free.  Also wonderful acceleration, smooth power steering and the power top operation was all good too.  An easy driver with plenty of highway cruising power, and ride to match.  All functions were working as they should.

A snazzy throwback to the late 1960's with a cruise look with that too down like none other.  I picture myself with my Wayfarers on and my wife with her bandanna covering her Bouffant hairdo.  Life is good cruising through the hood!
