    Plant information

As with most others in the Goldenrod genus, showy goldenrod is a pollinator haven, and can grow in some of the toughest conditions you can find. This species in particular is a bit more compact than others, reaching 2-3 feet in height, and has beautiful, large clusters of yellow flowers. Pinch the flower heads as they begin to fade and you will encourage additional blooms to emerge.

Goldenrods are often wrongly blamed for causing seasonal allergies such as hayfever, but the pollen from goldenrods is very large and sticky, so it doesn’t fly through the air like ragweed pollen.

If you are concerned about the pushy nature of goldenrods, this is the species for you! Solidago speciosa is clump-forming and not as aggressive as some of its cousins. Combine this pollinator powerhouse with some of our other favorites, like Schizachyrium scoparium, Liatris scariosa, and Physostegia virginiana for a colorful garden that will attract more pollinators than you could imagine.
