History, uses and notes:

Providing a dramatic flash of yellow to any wildflower garden, the Corn Marigold is a hardy annual that may flower in the first year. Historically native to the UK, it has been found here since the Iron age.

The Corn Marigold seems to have been a serious weed during the 13th century in Scotland, as suggested by a law of Alexander II which states that if a farmer allows so much as a single plant to produce seed in amongst his crops, then he will be fined a sheep.

It ranks highly in nectar production and has a long blooming period which makes it very popular with the bees!

It can be found on the RHS list as 'Perfect for Pollinators' and will help us #bringbackthebees

Description:

The flowers are golden-yellow discs with prominent ray florets. The leaves are deeply toothed, slightly fleshy, hairless and covered with a waxy layer that gives them a greenish blue-grey colour.
