Georges Bizet was a French composer, mainly of operas. In a career cut short by his early death, he achieved few successes before his final work, Carmen, became one of the most popular and frequently performed works in the entire opera repertory.

Love this. This hardback has a nice introduction putting the opera Carmen in it's historical context. The original French Libretto with parallel English translation is excellent. The full opera is included in two CDs. Nice artwork and photos throughout. It's perfect.

The recording is very well done and the book is amazing in its detail and photos. The English translation opposite page makes the opera story clear.

Complete with two CDs this is a good primer before [or rememberance after] "Carmen." The book tells you the entire story of this Opera.

After seeing Carmen at the New York City Opera, I enjoy it again and again by listening to it and somethimes reading along with the Black Dog opera series of books with CDs.
