Nissan's R34 Skyline GT-R has been out there for a while, but it has never been here in the U.S. This supercar debuted in 1998 and was sold until 2002, but it was never imported into the United States or sold here. That doesn't mean people haven't daydreamed about owning these from the moment they appeared. Most models back then were advertised at 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Of course, many people reported around 330 horsepower from the R34 Skyline in 1999, which was a tremendous amount of power back then. For example, the 1999 Corvette only got 345 horsepower. The R34 Skyline was indeed special.

Why is the R34 Skyline Finally Coming to America?

While there were legal regulations that allowed the model to be imported for simple show and display before now, it wasn't legal to import this model for actual sell and drive fun. The model was illegal because it did not pass the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards set under the Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act of 1988.

This left many Nissan fans of the model very sad for years. Fortunately, the car is about to be made legal because it made it through the "25-year rule." Under this rule, the model can be imported to the U.S. for more than just a basic display. There's a crucial catch to this legality, though. While you can use the model as a drag or race car, driving it on American streets and highways is still not legal.

Many people are still thrilled that they can finally get this model and head out to a racetrack for some fun. The R34 Skyline is as legendary as Nissan first created it, and many people with the funds to afford it will make it a racer in their collection. We're working on making sure that our customers finally have access to this now-legal Nissan legend.
