BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) — A Virginia Tech swimmer is criticizing the NCAA for letting a transgender swimmer compete in the women's division.
Former Olympian Reka Gyorgy sent this letter to the NCAA earlier this week.
She blasted their decision to let transgender swimmer Lia Thomas compete in the women's divison at the NCAA championships.

In the letter, she said: "Every event that transgender athletes competed in was one spot taken away from biological females throughout the meet."
Gyorgy swam the 500-yard freestyle event against Thomas.
She placed 17th in the race, just missing the top sixteen mark to make it back to finals.

In the letter, she said she felt like that finals spot was taken from her because Thomas was allowed to swim.
She went on to say she fully respects Thomas and stands with her, but does not agree with the NCAA's choice to let her race in the women's division, saying it hurts her, her teammates, and other women in the pool.

Gyorgy is asking the NCAA to think about all of the other female swimmers and how it feels to be in their shoes.
She hopes they will make the right changes for a better future in the sport.
