However, this soak can turn opposite and become frustrating and stressful if the tub is untidy. We face one of such conditions when there are rust stains right under the faucet. This raises the need for us to immediately look for a good rust stain remover to get rid of the stain.
There are different types of Bathtubs made of different kinds if materials, including enamel, acrylic and porcelain. This means each of the material will see a different impact of each kind of the rust stain remover commercially available in the market. For example, bleach can discolor acrylic tubs.
Therefore, we have brought you a few methods to clean the rust stains from the bathtubs. These DIY stain removers are easy to make and easy to use. Read till the end for a bonus tip.
Use Lemon Juice and Salt Mixture
Take half a cup of lemon juice and add 1-1.5 teaspoons full of salt. Stir to mix and form a solution. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and apply the solution to the rust stain on the tub. Apply it thoroughly and let it stay there for a while.
After about an hour, use the same piece of cloth to rub the stained area after wetting it in the solution. This DIY rust stain remover should take away the stain. If it does not, follow the next step.
Use Vinegar and Salt Mixture
Vinegar contains acetic acid and hence can be a good cleaner for most purposes. Take half cup vinegar and pour 2 teaspoons full of salt in it. Stir to mix and form a solution. Follow the same procedure as in the first step.
Use clean cloth to dab at the stain and make it wet. Let the solution stay on the stain for a while, and then rub it with the same cloth.
Warning: Vinegar contains acid, which might not be suitable for some bathtub materials as a rust stain remover. This brings as to our bonus step.
Bonus Tip! Use WD-40 as a Rust Stain Remover
In some cases, both of the earlier steps might fail to work. And even if they do, they might harm the tub material due to their acidic properties. This is why we have this bonus method of using WD-40, as it is suitable for almost all surfaces.
Just spray a little WD-40 on the stain and leave it for 10 minutes. After a while, damp a clean cloth with the spray and rub the stain to see it disappear. Just remember to remove the residue before you get in the bath tub!
