A Kanawha County deputy has been named as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year on Wednesday by the U.S. Marshal Service, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Brent Borchers is receiving one of the highest honors granted by the U.S. Marshal Service for his service to his community, becoming one of the two officers in the nation receiving the award this year, according to a news release.

A 24-year veteran of the force, Brochers has served on county sheriff’s office warrants division, I.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia CUFFED Task Force, county sheriff’s bomb squad and as a Special Deputy U.S. Marshal.

According to the release, county Sheriff Mike Rutherford and Chief Deputy Joe Crawford “could not be happier for Lt. Borchers and stated that Lt. Borchers has had an impeccable career and dedication to his sworn oath as a Kanawha County Deputy Sheriff. Lt. Borchers is an asset to the department, and we are fortunate to have him.”
