The Outlast Trials

Program X features a series of intense challenges that will test your abilities, patience, and perseverance in The Outlast Trials. Completing them is mandatory if you want to finish the game and join the Reborn, but don’t expect any easy trial. They include merciless modifiers that will bring you to a whole new level of difficulty, and you won’t have an easy time if you plan to play solo. In fact, the best way to survive and complete trials is by joining a group of players so that you can count on each other during your adventure.

Program X, however, isn’t available from the beginning of your journey in the game. If you try to open it when you first start The Outlast Trials, you will notice that you can’t access it nor see any of the trials included. That’s because you must unlock it before progressing with it. But how? In this guide, you will find all the relevant information about Program X in The Outlast Trials.

How to Unlock Program X in The Outlast Trials

To unlock Program X and play its trials, you must first complete all the previous programs. They are Police Station, Fun Park, and Orphanage. Each contains five challenges, for a total of fifteen. These are divided into two shorter trials, called MK-Challenges, and three longer trials with a full set of actions to perform. The first doesn’t have any modifier, the second features three modifiers, and the third, labeled as an exam, is locked until you reach the end of all the previous trials for that specific program. It has six modifiers that significantly increase the difficulty of the challenge, making it quite difficult to complete it alone.

You will get a grade for every finished trial, but it doesn’t really matter if you only aim to unlock Program X. Regardless of your rating, you can access it once you complete the first three programs. If you play with a group, you will probably achieve this result faster, as embarking on trials alone can be pretty frustrating in this game.

Once you start playing Program X trials and complete them, you will earn Release Tokens. In detail, every successful Program X mission equals one Release Token. There are ten Program X trials, and you need ten Release Tokens to access the game's final section.

Tips for dealing with Program X trials

Every Program X trial can be pretty challenging and frustrating. The game takes the trials and challenges you have already dealt with in previous programs to a whole new level of difficulty with additional modifiers. Naked and Afraid, for example, won’t make you use Rigs during the mission, and you will only have one medicine, one antidote, and one battery in your inventory. Plus, there won’t be any other item in the trial. Other modifiers will significantly increase the number of traps and brutal enemies, decrease the availability of hiding spots, and more.

You will have higher chances of succeeding if you play with people who clearly communicate during the trial and help each other. If your friends don’t play The Outlast Trials, you can try to use the Group Finder option, and you will automatically be matched with other Reagents. Ensure you also have unlocked all the Prescriptions you need and equipped the Amps you prefer. If Rigs aren’t banned from the trial you are about to start, try to coordinate with your group so you can all support each other.
