Salem Christian Union Church was the first church established in Clay County. The Church was established in the mid-1800’s during the Civil War. The Salem Church Cemetery is the resting place of many Excelsior Springs founding fathers including the Rev. J.V.B. Flack, who was probably most instrumental in the town’s development.
