About

I got into Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, where I obtained my MD degree and my specialty in pediatrics. Having thus been trained a tertiary facility, I was able to gain knowledge and experience on all subspecialties of pediatrics, which helped me immensely during my compulsory state service as a pediatrician at a rural hospital on the Iranian border, where round-the-clock work was the norm, tertiary hospitals were far and consultants were unavailable.

I became aware of the shortage of physicians in critical care as a medical student, during a pediatrics lecture, where the professor said "unfortuanely, we are too few in number to care for all critically ill children". With these words ringing in my ear, my interest in critical care flourished during my residency, and during my time in Ağrı, I personally saw the effects of the lack of physicians amply experienced in critical care. Therefore, I started my pediatric critical care fellowship in Ankara University. After a year, I got a chance to return to my own university to continue my fellowship.

I am currently working as a clinical fellow in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine which is a job with a lot of clinical and academic responsibility, including being available daily for rounds and patient care, being available on-call when not on site, conducting clinical research and teaching residents as well as learning from faculty.
